Hi all,

Stag weekend for 12 of us in 2 weeks, we are going to http://www.blackmountain.co.uk/ for activities on Saturday 2nd August. We want to go out in the evening, and I am guessing Brecon is our best best. It's 15 miles away but seems the closest place with some pubs and maybe a club. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to go or not to go? any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

I spent a few days there some years ago, and I don't recall seeing any clubs. The group I was with found a few pubs to visit, and at the time there was some street Jazz Festival going on. Not much in the way of advice but all I can say is there were a few nice pubs to go to at least.

Thanks mate, few nice pubs would suit me and most of us to be honest but we have a few "younger" ones who would love a club as well but if it's not to be then it's not to be

Only places to go are Cardiff or Swansea really.

Everywhere else is a dive.

As long as there are a few nice pubs Brecon will be fine, especially if the weather holds and somewhere has a beer garden. Really appreciate the replies

You do realize this is Wales and it rains here, . . a lot! To be fair, we've had fantastic weather here for many weeks now. Hope it stays good for you.

I grew up in Brecon and parents still live there as well as loads of mates. As far as I know, Harleys nightclub is still open but its the only one. Plenty of pubs to choose from all within walking distance of one another - just follow the crowd.

One hint, I trust you are staying out of town therefore - if so, book the taxi's there and back beforehand as there are not too many of them and if you don't book you will be in for a long wait or an even longer walk!

Brecon is incredibly pretty, so anyone who thinks it is a dive must be blind or stupid or both however big city it is not but if you are into outdoor adventures then I guess that is what you do not want anyway. Enjoy!

Harley's is still open, it's a small nightclub that in my experience tends to be populated by the local high school kids, some of whom are just out to cause trouble. Depending on the age of the stag party, you'd probably enjoy the local pubs more.

^ Good advice on the taxis too, don't be able to expect to flag one down or book last minute very easily, and if you do manage to flag one down, they are so few and far between they may be a little 'cheeky' with the price. Whilst Harley's may be a bit of a dive the town in general is certainly not and there are plenty of decent watering holes.

Looks like you'll be closer to Hay on Wye. I remember Hay being a nice place.

If you want a curry there is (or at least there was a yr or so ago) a very good place run by some ex Ghurkas. The dumplings are particularly good. Gets pretty crowded though so if there are 12 of you best to book.

we are currying Friday night in Cheltenham after footie, then driving to the venue. The biggest problem i am having at the moment is getting a taxi to take us from black mountain to Brecon then back later!!

Speak to the place you are staying first. State to the cab company it is just so someone doesn't have to drive. Anyone who is disruptive will not get a taxi home. That's probably the main reason you can't get taxis.

Or book a minibus and driver for the night and take in more than one town.
