I used to commute on the M4 and this area was horrendous for congestion on the westbound return home at peak time. We were often ON STOP in a queue at the J41 due to cameras prompting braking and the traffic joining from slip road.
These slip roads are very poor, too short, limited vision, feeding into busy traffic. There were MANY near misses caused by traffic joining at them due to their poor design and silly drivers.
Locals got up in arms when I said they should be closed as they liked to hop on and off for local trips - it's a MOTORWAY ffs!
Meant to allow better passing of the area. That area is a major bottleneck similar to Brynglas Tunnel area and ANY problems caused serious hold ups.
In my view the slip roads should be at Margam and Briton Ferry bridges leaving the town area clear. No real problems then for locals either other than having to go to the town's East or West sides to join M4.
If only there was a £21 million distribution road around Port Talbot. Oh wait, there is. But hardly any body uses it.
