Good job I went the other way, that is the way the road race was not going, but it was a massive event. What was going on? Google not being helpful. More Lycra than an over productive lycra factory on the planet Lycra.

Yeah Dragon Ride. Longest event was 300km!!

Keep an eye out this weekend also as it's Velathon Wales. I don't think it goes as deep into the Beacons but will cause traffic disruption!

I knew the velathon was on, but thought that was up the Newport valleys?

Working this weekend anyway.

Was thinking about some of them bikes, probably a few worth more than my car.

Velothon route is basically Cardiff, Newport, Usk, Abergavenny, Pontypool, Newbridge, Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly and back to Cardiff.

As an entrant, I really feel for the locals, seems like comms between the organisers and those living on the route has been appalling but the threats of tacks on the road etc isnt the answer and the riders arent teh ones who should be "punished".

The route was announced in August 14 so people have had time to make plans but My MiL lives on the route not far from Abervgavenny and they were told in Feb about exact road closures but not timings which came out more recently. I think many were a little surprised when it was 0800 to 1700 even in the Abergavenny area given the Cardiff start/finish.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea even though my normal ride is 6 miles or so.

The initial one I saw no warnings without having to get some serious searches and that was after the fact. I would have looked for my hoonage elsewhere elsewhere had I known. The motorway signs this morning are warning about it.

Lycra clad tossers or the organizers should be responsible for the loss of earning suffered by any business effected.

A very poorly friend of mine needs to get from Abergavenny to St David's in Cardiff on Sunday to prep for major surgery. Bet he'll have a hell of a time.

Not sure these things are justified based upon the chaos to benefit ratio.
