Does anyone know if there are garage spaces with four post lift that can be rented for DIY work, or, if such a facility was available would you be interested?

Thanks
Mike

Not aware of one existing. If it was tooled up too I would be interested. Hourly rates would obviously have to be competitive with labour rates at a garage, and if there was staff on hand it would help if they were knowledgeable.

(And I reckon this is where the business plan falls short. You'd need several bays to be able to charge a low enough hourly rate and still employ someone with a basic mechanical knowledge)

Yeah considered that. I think this would suit an existing biz who have a spare bay, or on a day they are not used eg Sunday.

Must admit I was also thinking bare bones just a unit with space and a lift. Bring your own knowledge and tools. Less bits to go missing.

Depending on costs possibly minimal waste and used oil tank.

Insurance would be interesting.

I think, if memory serves, I read about someone doing this in Scotland a long time ago. See if I can dig it out.

In principle though if hour or day rental was low enough it would be handy for jobs where you need car lift.

Back of a fag packet calculation it would be about 80 quid per day minimum so a bit steep to be practical. Boo.

Time to start saving for the house with a massive garage wink. We can dream.

Found someone doing this in Caerphilly.

Hats off to them hope it's a success. I will be using them at some point for sure.

Didn't post a link as I'm not sure if that's allowed.

where abouts is this? I've been using Peter @ Roath garage on moy street and standing with him / passing him tools / annoying him but would like to use a proper lift at some point and make the mess myself ;-) ... ramps on the drive can be quite tiresome

I am not affiliated with them and haven't used them so no idea what they're like to use. If you use them please feedback as I'd be interested at some stage.

Nice to see someone doing my idea Haha

I'm not specifically on the lookout for a ramp hire place, but i stumbled across one on Lamby Way when heading to M&B Hydraulics to have a power-steering hose made up (another post for a recommendation for them probably)... a few doors up from there they rent ramps for 45.00 per day. Bargain! Mind you I bought a pair of home-brew over-engineered pipe and weld jobs for 25 beans and they seem like they'd hold a hummer, let alone my humble little M3 coupe so... ;-)
