Guess it depends on what you're after... There are a couple up at Cardiff Gate, big boys at Brewin in the centre and a few others dotted about.

Pension planning, investment advice, advice on balancing dividend vs salary, risks of leaving cash in my business, drawing up a will, buying property, etc etc...

Lots of the usual suspects for anyone running their own business I would imagine. Bit more complicated than I can manage myself. I have a Sipp, isas, some shares and some properties as well as loads of small pension pots. Need to consolidate and figure out a plan of action to make sure I can afford gin and rich teas when I hit retirement age!

Met with one guy on Cathedral Road who was ok but didn't really get the right feeling from him so wondering if anyone else has any personal experiences with IFAs in the city.

Hmm in the city I want to say Brewin but suspect they could be rather vanilla and expensive and haven't personally met any of the staff there. IFA/Financial planners are very personal choices though as ultimately everyone does the same exams and need to cover their regulatory backs so the first (usually free) meeting is your best bet to shop around and get a feel for the person you want to look after you. The 2 at Cardiff Gate may be worth a call - drop me a PM if you don't have any luck in the city

Well by city I mean 'the city of Cardiff' as a whole not just the city centre smile

Quite open to trying Cardiff Gate. I'll pm you tomorrow for the details, thanks!

I've used someone for a number of years. Drop me a pm if you fancy. Returns are good, and he's not run off with our nest egg yet.

One of my good friends is an IFA, lives in Cardiff and works for sanlam in Bristol but obviously has lots of clients this side of the bridge too. He did my life/health policies and he'd be managing my investment portfolio if I had one. smile

PM me if you'd like his contact details.

Faced with the problem of having to get financial planning advice in order to cash in my pension under the new regs (having benefited from good general advice from the PH team) I went to an outfit called AMG Wealth Solutions in Rhiwbina. Sound, practical advice, nice people and realistic fee.

AMG - very apt for PH!

I can recommend you mine if you PM. And I don't really like or trust IFA's...
