Just had a look at your piccies of the wedge, very nice too. The wheels are in very good condition, do you polish them?

Hi Steve

That would be a big yes mate, they take a lot of looking after.I can't take all the glory tho ,they were refurbished by the Renowheel in Bridgend going back to early 2004,so the last guy did a sh&& hot job of keeping them sweet. How's the car buddy, ticking over ok!!!!

Yeah the S is running fine, gotta wash and polish her for Saturday. I`m off to the annual S club heaven meet, lots of S cars pitching up, lots of piccies and film, a cracking day out. Best of all is the run out, as many S cars as possible on a run through the countryside, great! I have a DVD of last years run and piccies of the meet, see ya later, happy polishing .

It`s being held at Ettington Chase, up in Warwickshire, I believe the wedge boyz have the annual bash there as well. I know two of us are going up from Wales but we may bump into more on the way. I`ll give you a shout when I get back and tell you about it.

They were all made in Llantwit Fadre. There's still a business called Gilbern Cars but I'm not sure it has anything to do with the original. I've got a 1973 full colour brochure for the Invader Mk III in the loft. I'll bet it's worth over a quid.

A second hand car lot on (or near to) the original site. I think the 'prefabs' in which the cars were made are still there though. There was quite a good TV program on the history of Gilbern broadcast a few years ago.

Don't think so, if travelling from pontypridd to Llantrisant, you take a left down into a small industrial estate just before Llantwit Fadre.

That's the one. Coincidentally, I was in Tescos today and there was a Mondeo with "Gilbern Car Sales" in the back window. Mind you, I went to see a car there once and I reckon they must reapir a lot of them.

your brochure should fetch about £20 squid on ebay....
If anyone interested in the history there is a Gilbern Owners Club website at gilbernoc.co.uk
or just put in gilbern into search engine and it should come up.

The South-Wales branch of GOC usually meet up every 2nd Tues at the 'Barn' at Mwyndy Cross, nr Llantrisant, for a chat about cars etc. If you haven't seen a gilbern before then there is usually 1 or 2 members that turn up in them.

Which car had a wooden chassis? Was it the Gilbern by any chance?

Was it based on a 3Litre Ford engine?

I have seen a light blue one around but no for ages.
