Which car had a wooden chassis? Was it the Gilbern by any chance?

Was it based on a 3Litre Ford engine?

I have seen a light blue one around but no for ages.

I think some of the early Morgans had a wooden chassis.

No the gilbern never had a wooden chassis, they were all fibreglass bodies on a tubular steel spaceframe.
The early Marcos as well as Morgans had timber subframes so prone to rot etc but ultra light!!
Early Gilbern GT had numerous engines , but mostly MGB 1800.
The later Genie, Invader 1 ,2 and 3 had the same 3 litre ford V6 as the Marcos ,capri or Scimitar.
I do know of 2 blue ones on the road locally.

I've seen a red one, a white E reg one and there's a grotty orange one under a tarpaulin on Manor Way

I know the orangy one you mean i think the owner has several other cars and intends to do up the gilbern sometime! There must be others out there rotting away in garages /driveways, shame really. I think there's nothing better than seeing classics put back on the road.

Spotted a grey/silver Gilbern near Barry, a red dragon badge on the grill, looked real nice.

If ever you were looking for one for sale i know of several available and can give you Tel numbers. Could make nice hill climbers , or eligible for classic rallying etc. most parts are available or could be sourced as they use a lot of parts from mg, fords, etc.
