Those local will know this road well....

Cost me (or hopefully my insurers) a Caterham engine after a "spirited" drive back to Barry. Little too much over a crest and smashed the sump in on impact....ouch.

Good opportunity for an upgrade though?!

ouch its a wicked road to drive when not full of traffic, but i find its never ever clear for me. Noticed an awful lot of bikes down there yesterday about 1.45pm

As always, when you break something you will never have a better oppertunity to upgrade to bigger and better (and more expensive)

So is there oil over the crest now?

How on earth do you smash a sump at 30mph??

good point on the oil....

will be quite a spill over the top where I landed! prob sprayed everywhere mind rather than pool of? Insurers have been quite sympathetic (so far) fingers crossed.

Have seen more deaths than I care to remember on that road & the Police take a lot of interest in it at the moment (mobile Scamera) nr the Hawking centre. I also lost my Westfield along that road about 7 yrs ago (caught on fire from leaking Carbs) not high on my list anymore.

reminded myself why it is so dangerous, had a daewoo lanos pull out ahead of me and try to overtake a row of cars infront of him. blatantly couldnt see me coming in his direction

That's the problem with the road, not that it's a bad road or even particulary dangerous. Just knowhere to overtake at all and people do silly things when stuck behind slow traffic.

So how long is 5 mile lane?

You should be aware that the Amelia Trust Farm is on that road and it's a free farm day for lots of parents and their children. What this means, being free, is that it is frequently Chavsville Central with lots of sub-human dross in uninsured cars frequenting the area (he said in a generalised drubbing of decent and honest people striving to bring their kids up properly). Accordingly, you frequently get cars turning in nand out of there at low speeds.

Quite right, but if they are going to pull out you haven't got much chance whatever your in or whatever speeds really. Have a slight advantage in a 7 cos even if they can't see you they'll certainly hear you.....
