Hello Folks,

Next year marks the 25th year of my R5GTT and following its nut and bolt
restoration I'm inviting you guys to a joint detailing meet with peeps
from Detailing World and the RTOC. The invite follows a keen interest in
knowing more about detailing being shown by PH members.

The meet will be in Lowestoft - almost certainly starting at the Fighting Cocks
PH in Pakefield/Kirkley. Probable dates are Saturday 11th or 18th April 2015.

The meet will be spread over 3 areas, the pub car park, my garage and the
site where my R5GTT is currently being restored. All 3 places are within quite
easy walking distance of each other.

I'm planning on covering several detailing areas, from basic decon and wash
techniques to advanced polishing. The culmination of the day will, hopefully,
be the final unveiling of my R5GTT after its full professional detail, the
final part of its restoration. All this means that you'll have unfettered access
to experienced detailers, to an indy mechanic and 2 paint and bodywork repairers.

So, those are the bones. I'm looking for input on both the detailing topics that
you'd like to see covered and I'll be looking for at least 3 "volunteer hosts",
who will be able to help me lead a group each for an hour before lunch and
again, afterward. It'll be the topics requested which will inform the choice of
the hosts. Whoever they are, they'll get treated to their lunch.

Because space will be limited, the numbers will be limited too, bearing in mind
that it'll be a joint meet between three groups! If there is a good take-up then
I'll try to expand certain aspects, but I'm pretty sure that attendees will get
a decent goodie-bag each.

It's probable that it'll be a "deposit up-front" event, covering coffee and food
bookings, simply to ensure that those who claim a place actually attend.

As you can probably tell, I'm looking to make this an interesting and quite
memorable day. Your thoughts on all this, please.

With Season's Greetings,
Steve

Hi Steve

I would love to attend if I can, I have you to thank for a renewed enthusiasm for detailing.

One topic I wouldn't mind being shown is how to polish, when you think it is needed, what results can be got by hand, etc...

Well, we will need some test mules, so that "live" assessments can be made on site.
Areas I'm intending to cover (not finalised!)...
In the car park - safe waterless/rinseless washing, basic decontamination - clay-cloth etc.
Several other working by hand techniques, including spit'n'polish waxing (temp dependent)
In my garage - basic machine polishing, assessing which polish for paint condition etc.
At the Workshop - using other tools, including a tornador, also dirty work like degreasing.

Steve
