Been trying to find a way to get to this but everything it stacked up against it.

Also, my good lady wife pointed out that is probably not a good idea to thrash the socks off an already highly strung fragile thing when it is currently the only working car in our fleet and it has to get me to work and back in Germany on a weekly basis. Damn these sensible women making me see sense.

Anyway, have fun guys, hope to be there for the next one...

Gents, we are certainly looking forward to welcoming you (or welcoming you back for the regulars!) to our tarmac once again. The only advice that the newcomers should need is simple.

There is some general advice about our track days here

http://www.marhamtrackday.co.uk/track-day-tips/

I'll add a few other things as the pop into my mind.

REMEMBER YOUR ID or you simply won't be allowed onto the unit. Driving licence or Passport for you and any/all passengers/helpers.

1. There's a few guys about that will gladly offer tuition or take you out on passenger rides, look for the blue Holden for a start!
2. Do NOT under any circumstances attempt to follow the Red Nova into a corner, you will lose!
3. The pitlane is a friendly place, we usua;lly have some good banter and people help fix each others cars! Don't be surprised if strangers come up and ask about your car!
4. Listen to the drivers brief at the begining and adhere to all the flags (you'll be told of the colours and their meaning at the drivers brief).
5. Do not stop to help a stricken car, we will deal with it. If we've not noticed it, please mention it to one of the team.
6. Don't rush, there will be plenty of track time availbale, the track will be open as much as possible and there shouldn't be sessions as the numbers aren't high enough to justify it.
7. If you are offered a ride in the Red Nova, take it and make sure the harness straps are tight to the point of cutting off circulation!
8. If you see someone driving dangerously please let one of the staff know and we will address the issue.
9. If you spin out and collect a cone, please leave it, don't stop to reset it, we will deal with it.
10. Remember the bit about the Nova......

Little over a week to go, and we're looking forward to a great event!

I want to know more about this Nova!!!

Previously having had a 1989 1.3 SR with a mk1 astra GTE 8v lump, rebored to 1.9 on twin weber 45's, all done by Bernie Bowden @ Novatech, Blydenstein head, Harry Hockley strengthening kit... etc etc.... I'm all ears on this red monster!!! :-D

Are you able to pay on the day as still undecided whether to bring the car out even though only 5mins away from Marham?

Did a quick search and it was leading up to a 2010 Marham trackday that the advices on "not following the Nova" started - 2woody (Robg2's elder brother was passing on that advice) and Like I said I think it had been mentioned in a review of a previous event by me......

It's really good advice

Robg2 is the owner of the Nova - lets just say that he has the ability to make it "dance". FWD cars don't normally enter all corners sideways biggrin

It's a rally prepared basic Nova, AFAIK.
Couple of years ago at Marham, the Monaro and the Nova (owned by brothers) went on the rolling road. Monaro made 367 bhp, the Nova 62 bhp.
It has no top speed, but the driver is a seasoned rally driver (AKA nutter) who throws it into the corners with minimal braking and sorts out what happens.
His brother is smooth as silk in the Monaro.

You said it better than me.

I think both the Grangers are smooth - 2woody "Stuart" is smooth but deceptively quick across the ground.

I had the opportunity years ago to be a passenger in my own car with Stuart driving and whilst live timing is not allowed if you fit gopro or similar in the car you can see times after.

In car it felt much slower than I thought I drove it - I put that down to him respecting my car.

However in reviewing my own footage I never got close to his lap times even with no traffic.....

Just saying

Robg2 "Rob" is still smooth it's just that the car is rarely pointing in the direction it's traveling unless it's on a straight. (that's actually debatable too)

No sorry We need details to be able to book you onto camp, run security checks etc as it is a live airfield, and operational airbase.
For £70 for the day, what's to think about?? ;-)

Regards,
Track Day Team.

Stuart drove my car last time out, so I know what BC means, though he did take a rather wide line onto the main straight - I still have the cone marks to prove it!!
George also had a drive (I think it was George, certainly was one of the two organisers). He seemed to enjoy pedaling 300bhp of TVR around rural Norfolkshire.
I am booked on both days and will be there as much as I can, and happy to give rides/advice. I have done about 20 track days since last time at Marham, so have a bit more of a clue how to drive it now. And two sets of nearly dead track tyres to destroy completely!

No Anthony, it was me you let take the helm of the recently re-engage Chim! Lovely thing to drive and very easy to step the back out on the hairpin at the bottom end of the runway!

Marham is the only track day where either of the following senario's is pretty much the norm

The driver gets tired of being on track before the time runs out

Or

The fuel/tyres run out before the time runs out

In the hey days of the event - I've actually sat out the first hour or so and then started up when it got a little quieter and still ran out of fuel or had enough before the end of the day.

Seeing as the event isn't going to be hitting the 120 cars per day number there is going to be way more track time than anyone can need.

One little story from several years back - we'd never had a wet Marham and it was once again a glorious morning however in the afternoon some rain came and lots of participants packed up - by mid afternoon there were only 4 or 5 cars out on track (most of us who frequent PH) and I had an absolute blast and only stopped when I was almost out of fuel.......

I was running on slicks/road legal track tyres in the rain and never felt a huge loss of grip wink

It really is quite a grippy surface

Tyres from the sharp end of my FWD car at the end of my first Marham:

Tyres at the end of Marham trackday by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

They were at the point where they needed replacing for the road, so the 150 miles or so I did on the track finished them off nicely. I did change them for the journey home....

That is a fine reminder of my second (or third) Marham event

I very carelessly didnt check the wheels on the Midge, although MG Mark and I had hammered her round a few times (few smile )

When I got her home and set about giving her a rub over the state of the back tyres scared me stiff

New ones fitted this summer now, how they stand up will be interesting

Have a few of mine

And it's a shame I can't get these any more but they were as good as slicks but you could drive to the event on them (OK not home again but they did nearly a whole day)

If anyone knows a mobile tyre fitter that would come over the weekend, please let me know! Tried to book Dave Hagen tyres but unfortunately he's busy. Would be a nice aspect to have. Thanks!

I really needed to swap them round on the rims a little earlier in the day ;-) But no tyre fitting service on that weekend. Reversing the circuit direction in the afternoon would have really helped too - Opel Monza with 365 kgs of pig iron up front is never gonna be light on it's front tyres and when the circuit is predominantly all left hand turns a single front suffers.

But Marham listen and we now run in both directions in a day and sometimes have a tyre van there biggrin

The P-Zero Corsas look like they have tread still but you could hardly feel the groove - now they could have done a couple more laps..

I'm looking forward to it

Just finished tarting up the track wheels for the SLK

Started with this (actually I didn't this is after I'd cleaned up the kerbing and scuff rashes)

Bit of primer

Silver or black that was the question

So neither was the answer biggrin

Bugger - same brand primer and top coat too

Bit of lacquer

And then some paint on the backs

Just the slicks to fit now
