Chris, Helpers are people that won't be out on track at all, and won't be issued wrist bands. They are free to get in and I've added a helper column to the booking form. Any issues, please get back to me!

Booking is live and working now!

Fantastic news! I have been to 4 of these events a long time ago and thought that it would never happen again. Looking forward to it!

I have someone who would like to come but won't be able to get there until 2pm due to his work commitments, would that be an issue? I appreciate he won't be able to make the briefing, would he still be OK to go out as a passenger even if he couldn't drive?

Ill speak with the team, we may be able to carry out a quick one to one and sighting lap when he arrives (required to go out on to the circuit). Will this be for the Saturday or Sunday?

Many thanks. It would be Saturday. I've been before and will obviously have been at the briefing that morning, so if it's easier for him just to be a passenger so be it.

That's a real shame. Is there an operational reason for this or is it just that other customers don't like it? I used to go every year, twice a year, until it got slowly killed off entirely.

I think.....

1. it was because it was hard to tell who was going to drift and who wasn't on the approach to a corner so caused some complaints

2. FOD (Smoking tyres down to cords and tread blocks and carcases getting shed)

Probably more down to 2 than 1 I reckon

Fair enough, I mourn the loss of coming onto the runaway at max speed and full lock cool

It's a combination of the 2 above, and also....

3. Our insurance frowns upon it quite severely and

4. If we deliberately damage the taxiway surface we will be banned from holding any future events whatsoever.

Sorry guys!

Buncy, or any other members of the team, do you have an answer on this yet please?

For the sake of £10 to add him I'll probably risk it....

It's been OK in the past but there was a lot more time for checks allowed - my bet is that it will be fine but you might want to provide a passport number to assist with the checks

Sorry for the delayed reply!

If people are coming as passengers ONLY then they don't need a briefing or sighting lap. You will just need to let us know in advance (morning of the event is fine) and when they are at the main gate so we can escort them on. Should they wish to drive, we will make every effort to brief them and carry out a sighting lap for the odd one as obviously we can't do this for hundreds of people.

If you book him in as per normal, we will accommodate you.
Hope this helps? Foz.

All of those are valid and play into it - the other and most pressing reason is that most of the surfaces are becoming tired (most were last surfaced about 16 years ago, with a 15-year design life - I know 'cos I managed the project). Their age/condition means that the friction coefficient is close to its limits now for our normal daily use of them. Drifting would create significantly more wear, hence getting permission to use it has involved some compromises.
