Am here for the next 5 days. All pubs here seem to be run by Adnams so all the beer the same and all the food posh and expensive.

Am looking for a proper old boozer with atmosphere and good beer, good location etc.

Any tips much appreciated

Southwold doesn't have boozers as you've found out. Everywhere is expensive around here and they are just charging what
people are prepared to pay. Draught bitter around £3.50 with lager at £3.70 ish. Same with Walberswick,Thorpeness,
Aldeburgh,Snape and Orford. Too many tourists and second home owners.

The pubs further afield worth a try would have to be the Five Bells in Wrentham (turn right at Reydon on the Lowestoft road),
The Blyford Queens Head on the Blythburgh to Halesworth road or the White Horse in Westleton (turn left at Blythburgh)
They all do food but these are drinking pubs as well. I have not listed the "posher" places.

argh..just seen this thread: i live in s/wold and you are bang to rights on the beer and food. both are overpriced and very poor quality.

i haven't drunk or eaten in a pub in town for about 18 months now as the whole ethos is fill 'em bill 'em don't f%%k up'!

pub at gelderston locks worth a shout. or the low house out towards the other side of yoxford. or the pub (can't remember name) nestled in minsmere bird sanctuary. or several pubs to be found at orford.

Eel's Foot?

I think that's Adnams too?

Geldeston Locks is a cracking place though.
