Wheel refurber in Cambs?

Anyone know of a really good refurb company near Cambridge?

My Noble wheels are looking pretty rubbish. They are not very good at keeping stuff out from under the laquer.

Problem is that they have about 50 fake plastic bolts in them which can't be removed without breaking them. So they can't be baked.

I am guessing thay all I can do, is get the off the car, take off they tyres (which are dead anyway) and take them into a place for a full rub down and respray.

They shall have to just spray over the fake bolts.

So, any good advice or recomendations?

I'm surprised; I'd have expected real split rims.

Hey...

There are NO real wheel refurbers in Cambridge. I have Vindis VW/Skoda connections and was told it would be £60-90 per wheel for my original BBS RA 15" alloy wheels for my Mk2 Golf GTi.

I did a bit of hunting around and took them to a chap in Canvey Island...yes its a bit of a trek (1hr+) but when I got my wheels back it was so very much worth it!

On my Mk1 Golf GTi convertible I have the same horrible plastic bolts around the outer rim of the alloy...I was told by the company in Canvey Island that they take them out and replace them with similiar metal bolts.

Not quite correct. There's a specialist alloys refurb service run on a mobile basis by a chap in Huntingdon - the Alloy Ambulance. He will come to Cambridge for refurbs by appointment. Has full grind-off and recoat facilities.

Called your chap Anatol and they seemed shy like all the others (wicked wheels etc) of doing anything with the fake bolts in.



Any other "in house" places closer to home? I'm happy to take the rims in and leave them there for a week if it gets me a proper job done.



I'm pretty sure that the baking is only done to speed up the drying times. So, if they were baked at say 60 degrees, the bolts won't melt and it'd just take a few hours longer. no?

We'll find a Noble solution soon!

Not necessarily. Some 2-pack lacquers need to be heated to a fairly high temperature to start the curing process.

Do you have any photos of the damage?

he runs a body repair place in bury st edmunds and can do wheels. He did the 18" rims on our ford and they are excellent.

Not sure if he'll be able to sort out the fake nuts but he'll know a man wheo can.
