RAF Marham Charity Track Day Weekend 9/10th April 2011

We are as gutted as you all are about this, these events are the highlight of our year and it is our pleasure to host you.
We will return bigger and better in late summer (date TBC) and we are looking at new ways to evolve the event and make it even more enjoyable for you.
We will over the next few days be refunding all of the money (some £10,500) that has been paid in so far. This needs to be done on an individual basis so will take a little time, rest assured though, you will all get your money back!
I can only apologise on behalf of the entire team here, sadly some things are simply out of our control.
I will update you with regards to the event in late summer as soon as I have any further information.

Disappointing but not surprised Track Day has been cancelled; best wishes to all at the base.
Seems a shame to ‘lose’ all of the £10,500 already raised for charity, so as a lot of the Marham Team/Organisers post on here thought I’d ask if they’ve considered giving individuals the option of if they want a refund or not? Or how about no refund, half price late summer entry as an option (but please keep clear of school holidays)?

Thanks for the post and the support from you and everyone else for what is happening here at the moment. It is this bond if you like, that makes the event here one of the highlights of the year for us.
With regards to the refunds thing. I can see where you are coming from, but it would be too hard to keep track of who did and didn't opt in to the scheme you proposed. It is going to be a case of refunding every penny and wiping the database so we are fresh and ready to go later on in the year.
I am trying to work out if there is an way through paypal to issue a mass refund at the moment, otherwise there are over 300 seperate transactions that I will have to refund individually. I did one as a test yesterday and it took just over 2 minutes. So I'm looking at 10 hours infront of paypal....
Needs must and all that! I will hopefully find time to start the process tomorrow.

It really does make all the difference that when you make a very hard decision your customers/friends understand.
I have spoken to many over the idea of moving an event and I hoped we'd never have to do it.
Whatever your view we have a job to do which we take very very seriously. Marham has sprung in to action!
After 6 years this is the first time we have had to pull the RAF card and ask you very kind people if we can have our airfield back
I thank you all and I hope you all come back and visit us soon.

I'll use just one recent case as an example - - -
Just before Christmas RAF Marham was able to help St Martin's Housing trust go out on to the streets and help anyone who needed emergency accommodation and food and bring them into a warm environment. Due to an emergency donation of just £1000 from the track day takings the needy were helped just as the appalling arctic weather hit the UK! St Martin’s Housing Trust is very rightly proud to say that - - This year no one lost their lives due to sleeping rough during the winter months in Norwich. Need I say more?? This is just one example of how you help save and improve lives.

Yes. There are hundreds of examples of national and local stories that have been helped by your money.
I know that we have given large amounts (£5000 +) to the East of England air ambulance, Make a Wish Foundation, Help For Heros etc etc an even more smaller donations. £6000 per request is the largest we give out at the moment.
We were approached last year by a group of Paramedics who wanted to train to a higher level and equip a vehicle so that they could deliver the same care as the air ambulance but by road and in all weather. We agreed to a donation of £6000 to kick start the new scheme (Critical Care Rapid response car)
Shortly after our donation the whole amount was spent on advanced life support equipment which was of a much higher standard/level than is fitted to a normal response car or ambulance.
The car and equipment complete with a critical care trained advanced paramedic (call sign 222) is now operating saving lives.
One such incident shortly after our donation involved a car loosing control and hitting a large group of small school children out on a school field trip.
222 was called and put the new equipment/training straight to use. Even though a large group of children were seriously injured no children lost their lives due to the fact that they got critical care just in time.

i was a bit undecided about attending with the high(ish) costs - but after hearing that the money is actually getting used and to very good effect I'll make sure I sign up for the re-scheduled event.Yes.
