I’d agree with the above, and take up any offer of laps with more regular attendees - especially Rob and Stuart (or their offers to ride with you in your car).
Totally agree - just don't make the mistake of finding out who robg is and then following his lines - guaranteed to be an off in the making

I didn’t drive much at all in the morning, from my couple of times there it’s seemed that’s when most problems occur (stoppages, mechanical incidents etc), and I was perhaps a little nervous about getting out there. By the afternoon it was just a bit quieter and I found a pace I was happy with.
Good plan - it's always busy first thing - leads to a few car trains on circuits due to cautions and thats a waste of your track time and fuel - one thing about Marham is you will have more track time than you can cope with and pacing yourself is a good plan - bed yourself in gently - make frequent pits in the early laps as you build up speeds etc to check out the car if you are using it on track for the first time - tyre pressures will need adjustment if you are to minimise tyre wear from Marhams very grippy surface, Fluids need carefull attention untill you are confident that full use of the avaliable performance will not compromise fluid levels - same goes for brakes - last thing anyone wants is a no brake senario at the end of a 1 3/4 mile runway at max velocity - build up gradually so that you can have confidence in them.

Do all that and then you can be confident in the car and

Spottedlaurel said:
The half-time swapover will make things interesting this year, I’ll be looking to cram a lot more miles in before as well as after lunch to make the most of each layout.
This is going to be brilliant and really change the character of the track - approaching a 180 deg bend with an 80 mph limit at 150 mph in my monza is gonna be fun fun fun

My last point (for the new to trackday people) is please don't be intimidated by faster cars - there is a no overtaking rule on the approach to and in corners (All attendees are aware of it and 99.9% of the attendees comply) but having someone ahead suddenly change lines in the approach or middle of a corner (because they think they are in the way) is dangerous for everyone and can lead to issues (it's a great way for you to get into a spin for one) - pick your line and stick with it - car behind will position itself for an overtake on the exit of a bend and will do so base on anticipation of your line and no one will mind at all.

It's a great day with a really good atmosphere and spirit - almost a family atmosphere where 99.9% of the people going look out for and after one another on track and the pits - I don't ever want this to change cos you aren't going to get that type of vibe at a proper motor racing track.

PS You can burn some fuel - test the capability of yur car and yourself with a huge margin of safetly and feel fuzzy inside cos you are doing some good for charities too - if that doesn't make someone feel good inside then they need to check for a pulse

Hi i'm being towed to the event but the person towing me is not staying only dropping me off there for he's not booked in my car has no tax or test just purely a track car. if i get dropped off outside the gate can i drive the car to the pits?? please help as i don't want to be in a muddle on the day thanks scott.
I'll have to find out on that one - we've had cars dropped at the main gates before but I think they've had tax and Mot etc - I don't know how it stands for base access roads but I wouldn't mind betting that they are covered by the same requirements as the roads outside the base just enforced by people with automatic weapons

Rtv - Rob can you help on this one?

OK mate, not a problem. I will email you tomorrow from work at Marham with details of how to get everyone registered and booked in.
Better email me too as this has come up several times already and no idea how to fix it the suport element doesn't seem to be covered under the system

eg

Caterham driven into circuit - can't have a supoort car/van and driver with wheels, tyres and fuel unless it's a tow car - driver of support car must be a passenger'co-driver even if they have no intention of driving or being a passenger in their other halfs petrol head addiction

Marham Team said:

It has come to the attention of the team that the new website makes no provision for attendees to bring support vehicles onto the unit for the event without registering them and having to pay £60 for a vehicle that is not going out on track.

By “support vehicle” we are talking about cars/vans being used to carry fuel spares tyres etc when the car used on track is not being towed in on a trailer.

We obviously understand that this is not an ideal situation, therefore, should you wish to bring a support vehicle to the event, please contact the team at

admin AT @marhamtrackday DOT co DOT uk

Replace AT with @ and Dot with . and remove the spaces*

  • (Address written in above format so they don't get spammed to hell)
And we will be able to assess the requirement on a case by case basis and if the we are satisfied that there is a genuine need for the vehicle, register the car separately so you can bring it onto camp without having to pay for it.

There are some conditions to be met first though.

Please ensure that

1. Anyone coming to the event in the support vehicle must be already registered and paid as a driver/passenger

2. The car(s) that the vehicle is there to support must already be booked on and paid for, prior to us registering the support vehicle.

3. Under NO circumstances is the support vehicle to go on to the track. In the event of a breakdown, vehicles will be recovered by the RAF Marham track day team.

Can you post this update on the threads on your respective forums.

Regards

RAF Marham Track Day Team.

As an alternative scenario to the above, if one of my passengers drives to Marham separately and bundles into mine for the drive through security and onto base, can he leave his car parked for the day at one of the car parks near the shop(s)?

If so, is there a preferred car park to be used in this circumstance? Should he leave a note in the windscreen or anything?
In the past I've done similar where a passenger in my car has travelled in from a different dirrection - we've met up just before the security check point and parked the car in the little car park on the left as you go in..... I'm sure George or Rob will clarify the position regarding that - we didn't leave a note or anything but that would make good sense from a security perspective

I guess parking near the shops might not be a problem to anyone except the shop keepers.....

Can't wait!

How is attendance looking? Will there need to be sessions on either day?
Numbers not exactly right - I was a dunce and booked myself in for Saturday not Sunday as I intended......

23 Cars both days

54 Car Sat Only (Total 54+23 = 77)

70 Cars Sun Only (Total 70+23 = 93)

Looking likely for sessions on Sunday for sure - can't remember what the track capacity limit is but I think it's close to 100 - it's a bloody great track after all

I think I'll be spending most of the morning sessions keeping out of the way and trying to adjust a bias pedal box that I haven't fitted yet!! I'm thinking might be an idea if I put some signage in the back window - "Brakes being set up" Will swap ends violently or generate smoke from all corners on straights!" The car is track only so I can't set anything up on the road anymore

@ Ian. Your figures are pretty much there mate, cheers for doing the maths!
No probs - you're busy guys at Marham and as a forum co-ordinator I've got pretty much nothing to do - so nice to feel I can do something

rtv said:
There is still two weeks to go, so sessions on both days is looking likely. In the previous events staged where sessions have been in place, we have never had any complaints from anyone about the lack of available track time.
Totally agree - sessions are actually better in my book - esp in the mornings - giving people chance to take breaks - check the car over etc between sessions stop the processions that often happen in the mornings with open pit lane arrangement

Attrition normally means the afternoon goes open pit - however maybe a session or two in the new track orientation wouldn't be a bad thing

On a day at Marham with "sessions" all day I got in 172 track miles and I was one of the last cars on track (was not allowed to go past Go again laugh

On a day at Marham with open pit lane all day I got in 180 track miles - admittedly I stopped at 3pm - I'd had enough and was totally drained - used all my tyres (except the ones I was driving home on) 100 L of fuel had been consumed (had just enough fuel in the tank to get me home) and they'd stopped serving coffee in the refreshment tent......

It really doesn't make any difference at all - and hence the reason why Marham can easily state that "you will get more than enough track time" whatever arrangement is made

last time I managed 480 miles on the track over the two days.

And seldom manage less than 400 - total over 5000 miles now on the track, which is probably more than the runway cleaners have done.
LOL - maybe - good going miles wise

2woody said:
won't the track direction swap mean attrition is less likely ?
I can't see how it will make any difference either way - cars break and people run out of tyres or fuel - afternoon is always quieter

On a different note - do you remember if those master cyls for a bais pedal box were both same size or different size....... no markings to help me on them

With the track in it's current set up, it is basically a left hand circuit, which causes more wear to the R/H side tyres as the weight is all on that side of the car, swapping the track round should share the load between the L/H side tyres!

The decision to swap the track after lunch was primarily for car and tyre sympathy,
Provided you can get a set of tyres to last till the lunchtime switcheroo...... laugh

I should add that when me and George went through the thousands of images we have, we tried to chose ones where licence plates are not shown. 90% of people are not bothered by this, but the last thing we want to do is upset someone! If your car isn't featured in the gallery, this is most likey the reason why. So a top tip, in April, remove your plates before you go out on track and your pics might well appear in the gallery in the future! Besides, I know 'snapperlad' likes to use them to focus on, so it'll wind him up a little!!
Ha ha ha - like it

rtv said:
Ian, I've seen pics you've posted of the mighty monza on here before with the plate on show, so I figured you'd be ok with it.
I have no issues with it at all - I'm not sure on all this cloning ballony - It's a reg plate - the Monza has a new one now - B5 GSE is going on retention when I sort the paperwork out - I think I have 2 mths left to do it.

I have never blanked any reg plates out on pictures I've taken at events and shared on forums - no-one has ever asked me to remove one from my photobucket account either - as you say don't want to have your reg in the pictures - duct tape is your friend - if you aren't bothered then you aren't going to be upset if the pics are on the net the following day

rtv said:
Please don't email asking for copies of pictures from the gallery, sadly I just don't have the time folks.
I can totally understand Robs comments however a slower service can be provided by your PH forum co-ordinator who has pretty much all the marham pics squirelled away (well cept the one where the Monza lunched it's crank way back on one of the very early events - I just ask that you send me a message with car and info and then by way of thanks to Marham chuck a dollar or two in the charity collection bucket as you leave the driver briefing - that seems fair to me and if you don't hey ho - karma works in funny ways laugh

Oh and Monza is lighter by 178.5 kgs since the last event - sat down tonight and weighed up the last few bins of items removed....

was 1400 kgs and 250 bhp now 1221,5 kgs and 250 bhp - another 40 kgs and I'll be happy

Of course I could save another 0.25 kgs if I lost the number plates laugh

some wag will say I could save another 1 kg if I took all the stickers off laugh

From the organisers

All.
It is with great regret that I have to inform you that we have had to postpone the track weekend planned for 9/10 April. This is due to operational reasons. I have no doubt that you will all have seen the news recently and RAF Marham in the spotlight. We are as gutted as you all are about this, these events are the highlight of our year and it is our pleasure to host you.
We will return bigger and better in late summer (date TBC) and we are looking at new ways to evolve the event and make it even more enjoyable for you.
We will over the next few days be refunding all of the money (some £10,500) that has been paid in so far. This needs to be done on an individual basis so will take a little time, rest assured though, you will all get your money back!
I can only apologise on behalf of the entire team here, sadly some things are simply out of our control.
I will update you with regards to the event in late summer as soon as I have any further information.
Regards
RAF Marham Track Day Team
