Finally, the give way to the right rule is being consigned to the dustbin of history in a couple of months - at 5 in the morning. I'll be out there checking.

Anyone seen any advertising yet?

Better late than never.

Oh dear god yes it will be for them!

After living in the UK for 5 years but learning to drive in NZ - this is a definite move for the better!

Strangely enough when Sweden swapped from driving on the left to driving on the right, crashes decreased. Despite doomsayers I reckon intersection "coming togethers" will decrease - at least overseas drivers won't have problems.

Let's hope you're right. But have you ever been to Sweden? They're not like us lot...

You go first.....

NO, YOU go first.....

No, YOU go first....

Let's face it, it was a pretty silly rule in the first place - I reckon it's better forgotten.
(being a Pom I sometimes can't remember which way round it should work anyway - not crashed into anyone yet....

From the NZTA website

Public awareness campaign

It’s important that you stick to the current rules until 5am on Sunday 25 March 2012.

A public information campaign will be run in the month leading up to the date of the change on 25 March 2012, with national advertising starting 10 days before the change. This late February start date is necessary to avoid public confusion and minimise the risk of people starting to use the new rules too early.

And then you can throw things like this into the mixture, think I'll keep my good car off the road for a couple of months after the end of March

Curious...currently when a left- and right-turning car are turning into a two-lane road neither has to give way and each takes the lane closest to them. In the new rule does this still hold, or does the left-turning car now have the right of way and able to claim either lane?

They may not get driven for years. redface

At present probably 80% of drivers turning left into a two lane road will give way, which really sums up the total disaster this experiment has been.

Simple answer is this rule doesn't change, each person should still turn into the correct lane - hopefully less drivers will get it wrong.

Like another rule that didn't change but confused everyone once they assigned a fine to it, indicating on and off roundabouts, man this really seems to mess people up. Indicating right or left to go straight through etc.
