Hello,
I'm coming home for a month next year, (early Feb - Early March) can anyone recommend a decent car hire company? We will be arriving in Auckland and spending a week making our way to Wellington via the east coast to visit family before spending the following 2 and a half weeks in Wellington then heading back to Auckland to head back to the UK again.
We probably wont need a car hire while in Wellington as i should be able to use my parents car, or my uncle often has a 'spare' car sitting about that i could use.
Worst case scenario however is I do need a hire car for a month though and that will not be cheap. Not when with the amount of driving we will be doing i kind of want something half decent that will carry the wife and I, 2 or 3 large suitcases and friends when needed also. I was thinking V6 falcon / commodore sized. Are of the Hire companies better than any others? Anyone have any contacts or can offer any thoughts?

My wife works for Flight Centre and can do deals on several car hire places that may be better than you can get yourself. If you're interested send me your email address and the exact (ish) dates you'd like and she can look into it for you.

Nearer the time you could use this website, particularly if your return journey is direct Wellington to Auckland.

Not many from Auckland with enough days to go via east coast but you never know - especially in the tourist season with cars & motorhomes that need returning to their depot of origin.

and they were all fine, although we tended to just get whatever was cheapest to get 2 or 3 of us around for a month at a time. They tend to be older jap autos, servicable but not luxurious. If you want something newish and big you may be better off going to the usual majors - Avis, Hertz, etc although you'll pay a lot more for it.
