I had written out a big reply but its part of my contract that I cant discuss tax matters so I really shouldnt put a detailed reply on a public forum.

Basically peterpsg it comes down to the difference between a tax resident and a resident for immigration, they are very different concepts.

As for claiming GST I knew that was how you were claiming to do it just I think you will struggle to justify it being totally business related.

Good luck to both of you though

...tax resident...

Ah well, was worth a try ;-), something about 'enduring family ties' catchs me out... never mind, I guess I'll have to make do with ~500 bhp plus a NOS kit...

LTSA are fine - Ultima only make 75 cars a year so as long as the seatbelt and chassis welds, glass, braided hoses, etc, comply, it's a piece of cake.

We'll probably want to get that in writing from Ted.

I read something about race seat belts in NZ, needing to be replaced every 2 years, etc, etc... though I suspect that it's only for track cars...

It's about $1500 to have it complied by Neil Fraser.

Yeah, Neil's a good guy, he's who I got in touch with when I first started seriously thinking about getting one, plus one of my mates Dad's used to have a Fraser, and it looked pretty good...

I don't know about engine block emissions.

Ok, the guy with the Ultima that I'm going to take measurements from tomorrow said that his engine block on his previous kit car was a 1974 model, thus it is easy to get around the laws here... I'm not so sure that it applies to NZ, and if they let that slide thru as well...

Regardless, I would prefer to have the alloy block, and also have the cats on, since, well, I have to breathe air as well...

If you decide to go for the American Speed engine, you'll pay a bit of a premium for the privilege.

There are many engine builders out there, and it's not like we're talking about a F1 motor here, just a 2 valve push rod engine that has been around for 50 years...

I'll be trying to track down a good circle track engine builder, since they usually have to cope with fairly high RPM's... though, that new LS7 that is supposed to be comming out of GM later this year looks pretty good... even has titanium rods...

One disclaimer I should put on my post is that Ive only been working there a couple of months and theres a hell of alot Ive still got to learn so I wouldnt make any decisions based on what Ive said.

More just giving advice so you know what issues you need to clarify

Hey Darren,

don't forget to add in the £1700 shipping costs to your budget!

I just hope I can fit the car in on top of my house lot which the company will be paying for me to take home ;-)

The free shipping applies only to the states, since those guys are getting a 95% complete car...
