Anyone have contact details for someone higher up the chain than the service 'support' team?

I might.

Depends on what you are looking for. If it is just to shout and scream - probably not going to give you a name! If it is to discuss something else more constructive I have some names I can share.

Remember I've got to deal with these people after you've finished with them!

Hello stranger.

Oh, I've gone well past being all shouty.

Moved to a new build. No Internet cables done yet.
Went to Dubai Mall shop and a very helpful man gave me a new sim, router and a password card. Told me to plug it all in and all should be well.
It's not. Authentication error.
3 weeks later and 20 calls, 5 service request numbers, and still not sorted.
Back to the shop on Monday and the guy was very apologetic. Made a compliant and said someone would be round to fix within 4 hours. Of course, they weren't.
Chased twice a day since and still no joy.
Yesterday I was told that it would be done mid-October?

So, Thursday(when I'm back in Dubai) I'll be taking all the stuff back to them and proceeding to get refunded.

All I want is bloody internet.

The service desk people just make stuff up. It turns out the mid October reference was relating to when all of the cables will be in the ground.

I couldn't care less about their project work...I just want my router to work, and absolutely no-one I speak to has the faintest idea of what I am talking about....apart from the guys in the shop....but they don't talk directly to the "technicians".

That sounds shouty so I'm not sharing the name! smile

So effectively you have purchased a 4G router like this:-

http://www.etisalat.ae/nrd/en/generic/wifi_router_...

Is that correct?

If it is - then go back to the shop - and make it work from there. Ignore Etisalat customer services they won't have a clue. Effectively you have bought a mobile phone with a 4G network, and you are then using it to share to your other devices. If it does not work in the shop, it won't work at all. Etisalat won't send someone to your house to look at what is effectively a SIM card/Network issue.

We use them for emergency use at work, and have no issues with them. However they are slow. Don't be surprised when your UKTV and Netflix does not work. You need those cables in the ground ASAP. Whose cables are going in? Du or Etisalat?

I AM NOT SHOUTING! (You are Rick!)

Honestly, I have no shouty bits left.

Agreed, the thing should work wherever i go, but now I'm concerned.....the tely was the main driver for getting this. Why won't that work? I can watch Motogp on my phone ok?

I have not tested it myself for watching TV, but the performance we find is approx. 5-10Mb down, and 1-2Mb up. Etisalat 20Mb package is advertised at 20Mb down, and 5 up.

So it depends on how much of internet you are using in your house? Also I suspect the 4G Router will not have QOS on it (having said that I bet you never set QOS on your fixed line anyway for your UKTV box!).

One more question is there a "fair usage policy" on the 4G router SIM package? I don't think there is - but may be best to double check.

This article is US based (and there is nothing I can find similar for UAE) - but you should get the gist of it:-

Honestly I think you will have to try it and see. You can be the guinea pig and let us all know!

Also I need to borrow your ladders!
