Missed this on trade me, but still available via the Constructors Car Club. I give you for your perusal (drum roll) the 1975 Bricklin.

The one good thing the De Loren did was move attn from the Bricklin, the previous worst "lets build a sports car and create 100'sf jobs" fiascoes.

should i buy this? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/other/au...
very cheap, but wonder if its pocket change for a reason. never owned a kit car or anything before, but looks easy enough to work on.

Quote "It is based on a Triumph Herald chassis and running gear" very cheap, but wonder if its pocket change for a reason. never owned a kit car or anything before, but looks easy enough to work on.
Translation
The Fibreglass body is bolted to a Triumph Herald chassis and running gear.
The diff has to be replaced by a 180B unit or similar when the Herald diff spreads it's innards over the road or lets the half shaft (that also mounts the wheel) go walkies.
The Lynx Fiber glass body (unless the nose and bonnet has been radically sectioned) appears to be pointing up hill, yielding a "controversial" interpretation of the L7 clone idea.
The one view missing from the Trade Me ad is side on at sitting in a car level. Once seen not easily forgotten.

It's been listed on the constructors club website since March. Not my cup of tea in the looks department and I do like the 7 type of vehicle. How about upping the budget for this? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/other/ch...very cheap, but wonder if its pocket change for a reason. never owned a kit car or anything before, but looks easy enough to work on.

estimated 450hp? Rather optimistic, wouldn't you say....?

Optimistic? More like fantasyland! They were rated at 340bhp and even then that's EXTREMELY optimistic. A GOOD "500" is known to make about 300-310 flywheel bhp, with a bad one being closer to 285-290! Having investigated trying to build a Rover V8 in the past to around (a genuine) 350bhp... and it was NOT cheap!
450bhp from a Griff 5L would involve aftermarket head castings (like the Wildcats), which are moonbeam money, and certainly far and away better than the TVR heads, which are based on stock castings.

I asked about it at the time and spoke to the roll cage builder. It's got a good history And the cage has been done well enough - would be good toy for someone if that's what you want, but I think fair value is a lot closer to $25k than what he's asking.
ETA- I remember now there was some story about the engine being a bit special as built by the factory (not 450hp special tho!) but no evidence was offered. The original owner went to Blackpool and drove it around UK and France a bit before shipping it home.

She's a tough market to sell in at the moment! Just dropped the price of mine a bit more, any ideas from you folks on what I might be doing wrong with the ad?

The ad looks good - every time you post it here I spend a few seconds trying to justify why I need it .
Only thing I'd suggest is posting some lap times to give an idea of just how quick it is. It would probably sell quicker almost anywhere else but Gore/southland IMO - can you ship it north to a mate to sell for you?

Nothing wrong with it that I can see. Looks like it's well priced and well described. I'd even consider it myself if I were in the market for a car like that...http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=44...

Cheers - good points especially location, I might add a note that I'm happy to meet a buyer at airport or deliver as far north as Timaru.Only thing I'd suggest is posting some lap times to give an idea of just how quick it is.
