I'm not so sure... a SAAB still stands out from the crowd, which seems to be a bad thing to be... having said that, my piece-of-crap, white, 1987 Mitsubishi Mirage Spacewagon still has some scrote's name scratched into the bootlid and that's about as nondescript as cars come. That vandalism was done back in 2001 (at the same time as I had two of my tyres slashed) and as I don't really care how that car looks, it's remained there.... the reason that happened that time is I lived near a skate-park with its natural high-concentration of young ne'er-do-wells. Again, that was back in my student days and it was another occasion where I had vandalism/theft/wrong inflicted upon me by no fault of my own... sometimes this just happens (doesn't help when you don't live in a nice area) and I guess it's a sad indictment of modern society that this sort of thing goes on.

[quote=Esprit]. I wasn't expecting anything like this to happen, and it's only that I'm going over the car with a fine-toothed comb for the Ellerslie Concours that I spotted it. It definitely wasn't there last Saturday when I last went over the car, so it seems that perhaps I was right to be cautious and perhaps I'll maintain some healthy caution in the future.

So how is the car looking on the whole anyway? you must be getting excited having it on the stand at the show. What cars are going in it this year? Robins pretty biased towards anything Europa, I guess you figured that one out already. He wanted an all Europa Theme last year, until we all shut him down really quick on that suggestion - bless his little cotton socks wink

On the whole going well... Just got the second wax coat to finish before the weekend. The wheels are off and cleaned but need to be polished. Forecast for sunday is Heavy rain so not sure if I can be bothered going too anal on the cleaning as the weather's looking likely to make it all for nought anyway.

Car's not looking too bad so long as you ignore the stone-blasted front end and don't look too hard at the lovely scratch running across the underside of the rear wing ranting

Despite Robin's best efforts there's only 2 Europas on the stand, Michael Keeenan's S2 and one of the new Europa S models. There's my Exige, Tony's 111R, Dean's V8 Esprit, TH's Elite and I think there may be an Excel or an Elan there too.

I was stunned to hear a prominent politician on TV recently defending the rights of youth to be taggers - saying it's not actually illegal, it's a form of 'art' and we should accept it as just an expression of individuality that the little tykes will grow out of, and we should all stop being so hard on our youth. The rights of the tagged didn't seem to feature in this view of the world.

And you're surprised by this? Look at the sectors of society that particular person was voted in by.... a sector of society that is made up of a constituency that undoubtedly contains more taggers past and present than pretty much any other. The real shame of it all is that MMP gives this minority a far bigger standing than they deserve. Mz Turia in terms of policymaking is probably one of the most influential people in this country.

People see the damage done by tagging/vandalism as merely a bit of minimal-harm damage that can be undone with an insurance claim or a little elbow grease. What they FAIL to realise is the far deeper and permanent emotional scars left on the victims by such crimes. That's right, it's not just rape victims that emotionally suffer when a crime is committed against them, who'd have thought.

I've not ALWAYS been a cynical asshole, sadly the lessons that my all-too-frequent brushes with these poor, misunderstood minor-criminals have taught me is that society is a cess pool and you've got to look after your own.

One of only 2 MP's I've seen asleep during a select committee hearing.
While I couldn't agree with 90% of what she says from a policy perspective, She does appear to be MUCH more informed than when first in parliament. In the earlier days . . . banghead

That's possibly a bit harsh on society as a whole, but there's certainly some bits that are more pleasant to swim in than others. At least we don't have some of the societal problems that others have like endemic corruption and bribery in officals, or aspiring martyrs wandering the streets.

And if it's any comfort, remember the scrote who did this is statistically likely to be on the receiving end of more violent crime and suffering than you in the course of his/her life. Of course the difference is, they deserve it wink

Indeed... and while my cess pool remark may have been a little harsh, remember you only need a cup of food colouring to turn an entire swimming pool blood-red... hence the problem... while it's only a minority (albeit an ever-growing one) causing the problems, nearly all of us are victims of it on at least one occasion.

hehe

Reminds me of the time I was outfall testing out a Army Bay. Got a small drop of Rhodamine Red C1 on the back of my hand, Oh well.

Half an hour later went down to the shore to wash my hands and turned the entire bay red yikes Looked like a slaughter-house accident.

On the way out the Base commander stopped us to say that if the press called he was going to insist that it was nothing military and to refer all question to me hehe

Sorry to hear about this George - the little f*ckers want stringing up if you ask me. Mind you if you see my TVR currently for sale on TradeMe (with the new owner) you'll see another kind of vandalism at work - the type that slaps stripes over the car and bolts on hideous, unnecessary tail-pipe extensions!

Have you considered getting Chips Away (or whatever the Kiwi company is called)? They can usually fill and airbrush deep scratches pretty easily, including the chips on the bonnet. I think the costs are quite reasonable too. Just a thought.

Jamie,

Cheers for that... if you've any leads on someone who can do this, that'd be greatly appreciated.... I'm going to pull the splitter off sometime and get it repainted/armourfended as this bears the brunt, but there's numerous chips on the front/side (thousands of the buggers) that I wouldn't mind getting the worst of touched up and filled.... I'll eventually repaint (the quality of panel prep on the Exige shells is FAR inferior to that of the production elise, so it'd be nice to get them done decently) but until then a touch-up would tide me over.

http://www.chipsaway.co.nz/index.htm George theres time before this Sunday to tart it up. The colour matching side of things is most important, looks like they have a decent set-up.

The last thing I want is leavig the car with painters for a few weeks right now, least you can keep an eye on the car. I will be going down this route myself.

Soovy I think you have totally misunderstood his point. He awsn't saying it was deserved beacause he had a nice car, rather that he believes you can affect what happens based on your attitude. (Not sure that I believe that, though)

Well I'd had a few beers and he pissed me off. We have a big problem with little sh2ts round where I live in London. They kick bodykits off cars, key them etc.

Personally I think that hand ermoval is the answer. You don't ever fvck with another man's property. Ever.

Oh I saw the title and thought someone might need help - someone on here got their car vandalised by a jealous neigbour a while back and I used some legalistic pliers and blowtorch to deal with it.

I thought perhaps I could do the same here - only just saw the New Zealand tag!!! hehe

That Kylie sounds like a cloud9
