Amen to that... I got mine in because I was worried about it getting banned. Seems that might not be the case, but it's sure going to be a lot harder/more expensive to do it in the future frown

Its probably all due to ferrari's and TVR's destroying the enviroment, nothing to do with US or China or mas imports of cheap ste to put on the warehouse's shelves..

Someone has to pay, and the rich bugger with the flash motor looks an easy targetfrown

I think I own enough land to cover my mythical carbon footprint so they can sod-off. The fact the the gumint has confiscated whatever credits might be associated with that land is just criminal. ranting

Have a look at Trademe and have a look at the number of non-compliable R32 GTRs on there (a dozen or so).

Was discussing this with a Skyline aficionado friend of mine the other day... he reckons there's more than a few hundred non-compliable GTRs here in NZ lurking around (some running on false plates, some for motorsport only, some just tucked away in garages).

Expect to see many of these rush out come the new law to join the queue applying for the "classic" exemption.

The aesthetic depends heavily on the colour.

I'm not liking them in White.

I'm not really a fan of the new GTRs looks, too big and bloated for my taste. Saw a photo of one next to an R34 which put into perspective just how huge it actually is. The R32 is still my favourite. yes

It was in black, not a pretty car by any stretch, and looked large (especialy as I was passing the porsche dealer at the time...) but definatly menacing, r34 on major 'roids

I'd prefer an original one thanks.... matching numbers, original wheels and all that..... much the same as a Jaguar E-type with a big block chev would be worth 2/3 of fk all today wink

But what about an E-Type with a V12 tuned to buggery by whoever was racing them at the time? Thats more like it.

Well, not when the E-Type S1 (which are the sought after ones) had a Straight-six wink

In the end, if it's not matching numbers, it's not really worth a premium if it's modified.

If it's a period-modified car with a history, THEN it's different (as in if that car was an ex-competition car driven by some famous jap dude around Mt Fuji or something.... ) wink

wink Depend why you're buying it I guess - that one isn't so collectable (though it does have the standard wheels with it tongue out) but has to be one of the cheaper ways to 1000bhp... heheeekdrivingyikes

R32 is one of very few Jap' designed cars that has stood the test of time. None of the other Skylines (or the new GTR) comes close. It's perfectly proportioned, svelte and subtle, all attributes you cannot apply to the new one. Oh, and one of the truly great road car engines producing one of the best exhaust-notes.

I'd also like to know how they made the new GTR so bleedin' heavy! It's a good couple of hundred kilos more than my Rover P5b Coupe for Gods sake and yet employs carbon driveshafts and one-piece transaxle thingys. It must have 200 airbags, electric astray adjustment and lead-lined lumber support.

Other classic Jap' designs apart from the R32? 240Z obviously, a pure RX7 'Batmobile' and...... well that's about it I think. Maybe an original NSX. Any I've missed? Oh yeah, Toyota 2000GT.

I think the S2000 is worth considering, and Mk1&2 MX5s are a pretty timeless classic design IMO (though more Elan-ripoff than Jap design), as is the Mk2 MR2. Oh, and the old KPGC10 Skyline GTR (1960s) is pretty cool:

Any more?

Actually I guess the AE86 Corolla Levin could be called a classic Jap design. Not 'pretty' as such but I see them as the Jap equivalent of the Mk2 Escort.
