Great meet and my first time at The Hare, it is a nice pub and attracts some interesting cars..
Such a shame that despite getting there shortly after 8 our group was asked if we could park over the road for not having the right car credentials... Having got up especially early and noting the car park was mostly empty this leaves a sour taste.

How'd you mean right credentials?Such a shame that despite getting there shortly after 8 our group was asked if we could park over the road for not having the right car credentials... Having got up especially early and noting the car park was mostly empty this leaves a sour taste.

I have attended almost all the Hare meets since the started 4 years ago. The landlord has done a fantastic job building the event up over the years and it is great to see the impressive display of cars, meeting fellow petrol heads and the fantastic atmosphere. The free cakes and coffee are a nice touch, I normally go for a proper breakfast as I am greedy!
I agree the attitude of the landlord did leave a sour taste today, I understand having a diverse selection of cars is key the events success but turning regular customers away as he doesn't think their car is worth enough just in case something better turns up is a very poor show. IMO if the event is promised a number of hyper cars then it goes without saying that spaces should be reserved but the remaining spaces should be first come first served... but at the end of the day it is his pub and if he wants to kick people out for whatever reason that this is his own prerogative.

Does himself no favours and I raised this last year when I witnessed it.
His reasoning last time was that the supercar owners don't want to come down because they can't get parked.
There are two clear and simple ways to fix this:
1) Tell said "supercar" owners to get there early like the rest of us do. Just because they have a flash car doesn't mean they should get any better or preferential treatment than any other LOYAL PAYING CUSTOMER!
2) If he knows a select number of supercars are coming then to one off and reserve a number of places for them that will remain reserved until a designated time.
If they have not arrived when that time has been met then the spaces should be opened up for the rest of the LOYAL PAYING CUSTOMERS!
The guys with the eclectic mix of cars that people actually come to see are the guys that get there at 8am and are the ones paying full price for breakfasts month after month. Most of which bring friends along who also end in buying breakfast.
Despite our lower cost cars, we don't go for the free cake.
My fiancée makes better cake anyway

Last year at one of the meets in Rochford (you were there Frayz) the Roxwell bloke came over to a big group of us and said to me "You've got the white Lamborghini haven't you? You should come to my pub for the meet". Amongst us were people with some beautiful cars, 911's, TVR's, American metal and all sorts, but he didn't ask them. I felt embarrassed to be honest and I decided then and there not to bother. If they have not arrived when that time has been met then the spaces should be opened up for the rest of the LOYAL PAYING CUSTOMERS!

P.S. Brad we haven't seen you for a while, I hope you're well.

I was there at that time as well and remember that conversation, I also couldn't believe that he had bothered to go to another Breakfast meet to drum up business for his Pub, slating off The Cherry Tree in the process.

Alright John, hope to catch up soon. I keep getting unlucky with the Essex meet dates, either work or previous engagements.P.S. Brad we haven't seen you for a while, I hope you're well.
I've been going to this meet since it started and it has always been good.
Good cars, good people, nice pub, nice breakfast, etc...
Because I don't have a car that would really be of any interest to visitors at a meet of "this level", I voluntarily park in the National Grid sliproad across the road and walk over, even if there is space for me in the pub car park. I will continue to do this out of courtesy to the people that only want to see expensive metal.
However, if I ever did attempt to park in the pub car park and got turned away because my car wasn't interesting or expensive enough for him, I'd probably tell him to F--K off and never attend again.
It's rather discriminatory and snobby!

I agree with you although would you continue to attend the meet if each month at 7:30am you found the Ford Ka club taking up the whole car park and enjoying a free breakfast? Probably not and that's the point, it needs to be policed. The pub puts on the event, at their expense, to draw the public (not specifically us) somewhere they wouldn't normally go, in the hope of future mid-week custom. The pub isn't going to draw people without rare, expensive or high-end cars, however much I and others here would have loved to kick the tyres of those cars turned away.Good cars, good people, nice pub, nice breakfast, etc...

As a car owner I would have been mortified. As the landlord I would have done the same (although with others to ensure a more eclectic mix of cars). There is no solution, unless he finds a bigger venue (which kind of defeats the point).
Whilst I completely understand the discontentment here, I don't think it's right to drag the pub's good reputation through the mud - I know from chatting to staff that the landlord (think there are actually two) has fought to keep this event alive despite the police being called for more than one incident over the years. It is a great event and amazing pub, although I'd love to see something done which satisfies everyone.
Off-topic, why isn't there a US-type cars and coffee event in Essex once a month or even week? Perhaps it's time someone set one up?
He's fought to keep the event going to drum up trade, he's not doing it for charity!
I'm fortunate enough to own one of the supposed 'crowd pleaser' cars but have witnessed my mate in his DC5 integra being told to move on. Poor show. Plenty of other pubs out there, some with larger car parks...

I think the monthly event is superb. It's always something I look forward to and try and make as many as possible.
I also appreciate it takes a lot of organising of which largely is done well.
As said, it wouldn't take much to fix these little gripes that cause things like this such as reserving space for the fancy cars until an allotted timeframe. However can also see how it must feel to guys who have made the effort to get there early in their pride & joy only to be requested to park elsewhere.
I guess the bottom line is, it's up to the pubs discression who they allow to park there, just a shame as it leaves a bad taste with people who would otherwise be spending money there.

According to the Hare's website it doesn't matter what car you drive, you just have to enjoy cars.
In the interest of remaining constructive, the landlord could consider having the gravel area a sports car paddock for 'normal' cars and have the tarmac area outside the pub as a Super and Hyper car paddock both on a first come first served basis. This would obviously need a couple of marshals to co-ordinate but I am sure a couple of regulars would be happy to help out.
Or of course just rename the event to Hare Supercar event and re-jig the wording to say, only £100K+ hyper cars only, peasants not welcome.

Your last comment is unfortunately nearer the truth, but it's alright for peasants to spend money in the pub! Or of course just rename the event to Hare Supercar event and re-jig the wording to say, only £100K+ hyper cars only, peasants not welcome.
