Or of course just rename the event to Hare Supercar event and re-jig the wording to say, only £100K+ hyper cars only, peasants not welcome. wink
...unless they're really bloody hungry.

Can't believe a DC5 was turned away, I would have thought they were quite rare and interesting!
I think they are!

On the whole, the landlord is doing something right, as its regularly a superb event and it does attract some very exotic motors. Short of extending the car park, there is no obvious solution to the problem.
Having said that its rare that the car park gets completely full, so maybe it is being over-policed. The chap who rolled up at 9 oclock in the black Aventador managed to park right by the front door.

I've been told I'm not allowed to park in the before when I've brought my DC5 along. It may not be expensive or exotic like some of the cars there, but even when I parked it outside on the grass quite a few people still came to look and speak to me about it.

I bet there are twice as many Gallardos in the UK than there are DC5s. Lol

Having seen a gullwing Merc pull up find there was nowhere to pack and roar off, and a 250 GTO turn up to a reserved space I can see both sides.

The Hare gets some pretty high end and/or rare metal turn up, and parking is clearly at a premium. If you are that bothered about where you park just turn up early - they only start being fussy once it starts to fill up.

No they're not, and that was the whole problem.

We all got up early and got there just gone 8 when the whole car park was virtually empty with about 5 other cars already parked up.

And that's when he came over and started being all arrogant about our cars, which is the main reason we're annoyed.

hi all, this reponse is from the management at the hare, we have read all the comments raised here and appreciate the mixed understanding on the matter. if we didn't respect the people views that attend we wouldn't be responding, firstly the event was first started 4 years ago based on the sort of meets that happen in the u.s which I attended on a regular basis, they would normally be held at the large car dealerships and the parking lots would be split into 2, you would have your exotic, hyper or just rare cars together and the normal or pretty much every day cars were asked to park in a separate lot.unfortunatly we are limted to space so we asked people to respect the meet and help by parking across the street which in most cases is respected!we want people to also know we understand that everyone's car is important to them albeit a 22 million pound Ferrari or there family saloon,we appreciate that people should get there early for there space and its not fare on those who get up early to attend and feel they are mis treated. our original intensions for the meet were to attract the sort of cars that you didn't see every day, we had one meet last year that was over shadowed and could have been a Tesco car park.....like it or not the event has been a success due to varied exotic/rare car base and a lot of hard work which starts on the Friday and 6am on the sat morning to prepare and numerous conversations with the car clubs throughout the month, regarding the the landlord approaching the Lamborghini driver to drum up business at the cheey tree is furthest from the truth and came about as he has strong connections with Lamborghini and is a genuine fan of the brand, we recently were invited to sheesh restaurant in epping and attended in a standard car, we were told at the gate sorry super cars only( they tell you what cars are welcome) and was asked to park down the street as they needed the space for the exotic cars that were due on the day which we respected. all weve ever tried to do is give all an enjoyable morning to mix with like minded people, but without the exotic cars coming along the meet will eventually die away and this has been mentioned to me by many owners who don't attend any more due to the fact they want to park with similar cars as there own. we will never please everyone and if some of the members wish to start something similar we will be pleased to help out with there plans to help with there sucsess in moving forward and creating a similar venue. the hare is run by '' car people'' and if it brings business so be it but foremost it was creating a great meet in the Essex area which I'm sure you will agree has been a great sucsess and hopefully it continue........ regards the management

Fair play for taking the time to write a response albeit in broken English. I know it can be difficult to please everyone but I am not convinced that the response actually addresses any of the concerns raised in this thread. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you for building the Hare meets up over the years. Having attended the majority of the Breakfast meets since 2011 I have had some fantastic mornings meeting fellow petrolheads and enjoying the delights of the Hare full english breakfast. I wish you every success in the future.

For those of you with normal every day cars like my TVR, that no longer qualify as exotic enough for the Hare don't forget the Essex Piston Heads meets.... all are welcome these are every third Thursday evening at the Lodge, South Woodham from 19:00 all year. During the summer there is a Breakfast meet every second Saturday morning from 09:00 at the Horseshoe Nursery Bicknacre.

Next PH Essex breakfast meet is this Saturday...
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

We also organise various events on our PistonHeads Essex Facebook page. Again all are welcome, it doesn't matter what car you drive as long as you are a petrolhead.

firstly thank you for the replys,i tried to make our reponse as short as possible getting the point across ''hence the broken english'' as with all these debates 4 word answers don't really deal with the issue!! if people would like to air there problem directly and get it off there chest I suggest we arrange a table where we can sort the difference and I will ask another member to join us for there opion also. as you know the next meet is in October, please let me know your thoughts and look forward in hopefully moving forward......for the record I have driven a Porsche for 15 years inc my 4.0 and many 997's!!!

I think it's safe to say that everyone here loves coming to The Hare for the meets. We all know it's regularly a great turnout and even when it's chucking it down, the hardcore of us still make the effort. Most of us order breaky of some sort and a good chunk of us bring friends along too. We ALL put money into the till.

We all know the carpark is small, we all know the drill. Everyone who goes knows this and anyone that gets recommended to go gets told to be there early as the carpark fills quickly. So we make the effort and get there early.

However it's difficult to praise and promote a pub to friends with (in our opinion) "proper drivers cars" when they may also make the effort to go and get turned away.
Do you really turn away that many lads in their Corsas with big exhausts? Probably not, because by and large this really isn't their scene.
So I think the fear of it becoming overrun with crap cars is quite unlikely. But what's more likely is that unhappy petrolheads go away and tell others of their bad experience with the management and you lose business as a result.

What happens If every Porsche in Essex decided to arrive?
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Porsche fan, but people wouldn't be attracted to it if it were just Porsches for example.
It's the mix of cars that get people going, because you never know what you're going to get, and that's what we all love about it. Where else would you get to be parked between a mini and an F40?

I suggested the possible reservation of spaces for said Supercar/Special car owners until a designated time slot. If they're as much petrolheads as the rest of us then they will make the effort to get there on time and this problem goes away.

However as it stands, it's difficult to reason with a dictatorship of what constitutes as a nice car. I own an Impreza which by and large are common as muck. Mine mostly looks the same as any other too. However with just under 600bhp under the bonnet and a fully reworked interior and chassis it's not your average Impreza.
In fact is quicker than most of Supercars there and always draws attention.

Maybe the next ordinary car that gets turned away may have something serious lurking under the bonnet?
You never know wink

I personally will continue to look forward to, and make the effort to go and enjoy the meets there until I'm no longer allowed to park.

Get the breaky on wink

Good post Fraser, and I definitely think the allocated supercar parking in the tarmac area up to (for example) 10am would be a workable way around this problem. Perhaps with some sign posting on the day?
