Good post Fraser, and I definitely think the allocated supercar parking in the tarmac area up to (for example) 10am would be a workable way around this problem. Perhaps with some sign posting on the day?
The meet works, it has done for four years, they should continue to enforce it. The Hare attracts exotics which no other Essex meet does and there is a reason for that.

As I understand it there is a meet in september and I plan to be there.
I can see the rights and wrongs of it. The Pub belongs to The Landlord so it strikes me its up to him. So much negativity and trivial insults doesnt help any of us.Just pees of the Hare and the event could stop and that would be a shame. I have been to the Hare meets in Mclarens and Ferraris and always got in the car park or on the pavement. When I have come in SWMBO's SL and Beemer (daily motor) I have parked over the road. Wasnt asked to ,just did.
Define a supercar well Ferrari, McLaren, Bugatti, SLS, Lambos (i spose),but also a 1960 Beetle is a super car as is a Healey,TVR, original mini et al. So its a tough call when there is very limited car parking. I suggest everyone stops chucking mud around and forgets the trivia. I recommend everyone goes back and the Management see what they can do to overcome the problems.
Now a fresh approach. Thanks for the free coffee and thanks for the free cakes Landlord please sort the parking out, we are all petrol heads. 1 Suggest reserve one part for daily drivers and one for specials and then when each is full let them overflow BUT if sense is used daily drivers like my Beemer and 350SL Transit vans etc can park over the road. You all know what is interesting and a supercar or a super car so lets help the guy out and ALL move on!
BTW if my grammar is sheit - sorry!:-):-)

Sadly if a supercar arrives at 9.15 and cant park it wont get parked over the road it will get taken home and chances are the owner wont come again. If the carpark is then filled with my BMWs there is no photo opportunity and you wont go again either.

No insults to anyone just MPOV

hi guys ,nice to see some positive moves forward and thank you bruce as a regular member from the get go. what he says about the rare or super car going away is true and they wont come back and its those cars that folk like to take pics of!!, whatever the value or rarity we all want to see them there. i want the guys to know its nothing personal against what they drive its just about keeping the thing alive and not spoiling what we have made over the years....it's not just the hares meet it's ''our'' meet and for all the regular people that have attended since the start , I just think people have taken it the wrong way as with all these things it gets out of hand. I own the pub and park my van and lisa's car and make all the staff park over the road to give as much room for all to attend, as with all things we learn from the way things evolve and maybe we can sit down and work something through, we are also working on a hare summer ball for next year with tim who holds the lawns event. it maybe to much a ask but its something we are discussing and are looking at venues. the hare will have been open 4 years on the sept meet and we hope the sun will shine and we look forward to a great turnout.

Yes some good and pragmatic posts on this subject that do give a different sense of perspective and I see now why it was being done (the turning away thing).

I now withdraw the comments in the first of my previous posts, now that I see the bigger picture.

I guess the reason this was taken the wrong way when it happened, was because to the people getting turned away, your first thought intuitively is to feel offended and discriminated against.
It's not until the bigger picture is explained to you that you can see why it was done.
I'm personally now quite happy with it all.

I guess as long as it is done sensitively and carefully, it is a necessary thing to maintain the meet we all love.

Agree that the landlord should decide who parks where provided it's done respectfully. And in that case, It would be interesting to hear a little more, breckyeater, about your personal take/philosophy as to what cars deserve top billing and which do not.

Most non-petrolheads see a ferrari badge (for example) and immediately assume the car it's attached to is rare, exotic, expensive, etc. when we all know that not all ferraris are particularly rare or desirable. Which part of the car park does the Mondial get sent to? How about the Renault r26r (which just made Evos top 5 drivers cars of the first 200 issues). To many it's a shopping trolley with some stickers whilst the rest of us will press its plastic windows and applaud the owner for buying a hatch with a roll cage where the rear seats would be. Where would you send an nsx, a lotus Carlton or for that matter my Noble? I guess I'm asking what your criteria are - are you catering for petrolheads, the general public or your own personal taste in/knowledge of cars? (and if it's the latter, respectfully, what taste and knowledge do you possess?!)

And if the landlord has any sense he won't answer this - as you are trying to put him in a no-win situation.

Not at all. I'm sure he's a decent bloke and has an idea in the back of his mind as to what these meets will ideally look like. I'd genuinely like to understand what that is.

I agree, if breakieater answers this he's doomed either way!!! Totally unfair tbh.
As an above poster says, if thoughts, issues, and requests are explained I feel attendees will understand more.
Personally if I turned up in my car and there were no parking spaces available I would be turning around and heading home as I would not be parking my Lambo on the lay by, road, or around the corner.....that's why I turn up early to get a good slot and avoid all this rubbish imho. However I would not expect, or wait for someone else to be asked to move or vacate a place for me as I feel I should have therefore made more of an effort to get there earlier to beat the rush.

If I was to turn up in the bog standard fiesta or the wife's Audi early, as I do in the Lambo, I'm sure there would be space. However if I had taken a space I would not be offended if asked to move by the pub for a more crowd pleasing car! I'd be an ar5e hole if I felt otherwise as comparing a fiesta to an F40, TVR, Porsche, merc, massa, rare kit car, classic old car, American mussel car, old historic good nic beetle, insanely fast & tuned scooby ?? (insert your personal choice here as I'm sure someone will endeavour to find something I've missed or pick holes in my selection) imho isn't going to compare. I would simple move the fiesta. Now don't get me wrong, I love seeing all cars from the old to new, cheap to expensive, rare to common. As long as they are presented nicely and in good nic then I love them all. I used to own a hot hatch show car from my Gary Boy days and did lots of shows etc so I'm no snob & tbh a first class Gary boy car still gets me interested as that's what I grew up with, but a line has to be drawn no matter how difficult this is, or who has their nose put out as the pub has limited space and a business to run and a crowd to please. I think you will all agree if you were in the pubs situation you too would have to make a few difficult calls. These calls have to be handled carefully and sensitively, but they have to be made otherwise the vast array of cars we like to see and admire will end up not coming.

At the end of the day, the meet was created by the pub for the petrolheads among us for both profit (he is a business after all) & his love of cars (he is a petrolhead like us too).
This meet has merely become a victim of its own success and when the amount of cars attending outnumber spaces, someone has to make the call as to who parks where. While we all have opinions on who should be where and egos to massage, This clearly has to be the pubs call. We all have to help him deal with it, otherwise it will get stale and boring and will just become some old meet we can't be bothered to go to, rather than a meet we all currently want to go!

IMHO!

See you all at the sept meet.
