I was offered an early (X Reg - 4 speed) one of these today and have been torn as to whether or not I should take it on.

It has 12 months MOT, just rolled over 100k on the clock (less mileage would be nice) and is metallic Green all over, not the more desirable two-tone paint.

It is in excellent condition and the owner actually has two - he needs to shift one for matrimonial harmony reasons. laugh

Will have to speak to Mrs Scouse later and see what gives. eek

I've had:-
1.6
2.0
2.8
3.0
Tbh I loved the 3.0 over the 2.8 but still had fun in them all.

A 4 speed X Reg 2.8 injection was the first of five 2.8i's I owned back in the day. In silver. Paid £2000 in 1988! Absolutely loved it still to this day. I remember the metallic green ones were not as desirable but today with classic car prices I don't think that matters. How much is it and is it local? If you don't buy it I might take a look and stick it in the garage!!!!

Mrs Scouse seems to think that an old Capri comes very low on "our" list of priorities. rolleyes

The car is in Little Waltham - if you want the chappies phone number I can PM it to you tomorrow.

Price? We never mentioned a solid figure but he knows that the 4 speed, high miles and non two tone paint all count against him. laugh

Sounds pretty sweet Carl, would this be a head or heart decision?

Hi Brad, 100% heart. As a schoolboy in Liverpool spotting a 2.8i was pretty special.

A guy I knew had a 3100RS Capri and he took me out in it once - I was just starting secondary school.

I think my bottom is still munching on some of the seat fibres to this day!!! laugh

I have always loved a Capri, always will.

I had one briefly as a young man, a silver 2.0 litre S with the checked seats which I loved (I stood and watched it burn in the car park of the Fortune of War but that's another story). My sisters boyfriend had a Mark 1 3.0 litre with a tuned engine that could wheelspin in three gears, I would have given my right arm for that car, so I understand the attraction.

I'd say go for it but with your eyes open. Get it and regret it as they say, do it and rue it smile

Never owned one myself, but I grew up with most of my mates owning them, I vividly remember being four up in my friends' 3.0S maxing out at 136 on the motorway!
And a guy up the road had a 3.1 on triple Webers with Cologne arches, with a awesome sound system, as a 17 year old that was a seriously impressive piece of kit.smile

If it's a sound car Carl, do the deed, you won't regret it and I don't think you will lose if after 6 months you change your mind.thumbup

I will have to convince Mrs Scouse that it is a good buy - will see where it goes.
