Any PHers live near here? I'm considering a move to a small village just outside Meopham in the Summer, and wondered what people thought of the area? How is it to commute into the city?

My current line nearby is Liverpool St, and my (future) office is near Bank - however the Victoria line looks like it could prove a bit of a trek.

There's a really nice pub, The Cock in Henley Street, not far from Meopham. drink

Very pleasant countryside for mountain biking / walking etc if you like the outdoors.

Mainline trains run into Victoria, take about 50 mins.

Another option for commuting to London from Meopham in the future would be to drive to nearby Ebbsfleet then super fast train to St.Pancreas, once Southeastern open the station up to domestic passengers.

That's good to know, the house is only 5 minute walk from that pub smile - although there's one closer, not sure how nice it is though (Lion something I think).

The Golden Lion, I think? Popped in there about a year ago. Not a patch on The Cock IMO. The latter has it easily licked for its excellent beer, good food and relaxed ambience.

Sole Street will probably be your nearest station for trains into Victoria.

Another option if your office is near Bank would be to drive to Gravesend Station, then train into London Bridge / Cannon Street plus a short walk. Approx 50 mins Gravesend to London Bridge for semi-fast trains during the peak. Better service frequency than trains from Sole Street / Meopham, too.

I personally think the area is a good choice for reasonable accessibility into London, yet living in the country. Reasonable-ish property prices too, considering the above.

Gravesend Station Parking is pretty small, and if you have a decent car i would no way be leaving it in Gravesend all day. (Bitter experience) but as said you can be in London Bridge reasonable quickly.
You also have the Ebbsfleet link coming on stream next year as well, so trains to Kings Cross will be pretty rapid.
Meopham has very occasional services to Blackfriars.

Meopham is ok, as is Hartley, there is going to be a lot of new building in Longfield I understand, wont impact you directly.

Are they building a new house there?

The original plan was to bulldoze the existing school, and build a new one at one end of the schools land, some of the existing playing field would be retained for the school, and the rest built on. It all hinges on a Government grant apparently.
(This of course may have gone away with the current credit problems.)

Late reply, but I grew up there and felt compelled to reply.

Living 5 mins from the Cock at Luddesdown is a definite positive! I live about 15 miles from Meopham now, but still make the effort to go to the Cock as often as I can.

I loved it as a kid - a great place to grow up.

Commuting isn't the best if you need to get to the City, though I have a mate who does it everyday and he doesn't moan about it. Living in Luddesdown you'd need to drive to a station whatever, so Gravesend would probably be a better bet for catching the train to the City.
