Bit of a thread resurrection!
Came though from Jct 4 to 7 at about miday today. Road was quiet and running clear. Nothing on hard shoulder either and yet all the over head gantries were off except the one with the cameras in it just after the jct 6 split. For no reason that had a 50mph limit, then the next was back to NSL then after that all off again. Cash cow?
The whole stretch was at 50mph yesterday at about 8pm, but the road was devoid of cars in lane 3 and there was only light traffic in the other two lanes.

This bit of road angers me so much (as you can tell by reading the rest of this thread wink)

Not to worry, they've nearly finished installing them all round the M25, so we have that to look forward to....

Every camera set at 60 last night coast bound j5-7with the usual congestion warnings @7pm....very light traffic. I sadly got flashed @j7 doing high 70s... Very surprised as low 80s usually fine. Have they fine tuned the feckers recently?.....I guess I shall find this out in a few days ( ...or not). Happy bleedin' Xmas!

Just done a speed awareness course in Maidstone, my offence was in Avonmouth but probably 20% of those there got caught in the M20 variable speed section. Be warned!

I see them flashing someone pretty much every other day, and as I'm only on that stretch for less than 5-10 minutes that's quite a high capture rate. It will be interesting when the next statistics are released to see how many people have been nabbed (assuming KMSCP include motorway cameras in their statistics)

Hi all,

New member here. Posting in this thread as I was on the M20 for the first time yesterday and was wondering where the cameras are. If I was speeding, would I notice the cameras flashing? I didn’t notice any cameras on the side of the motorway, so after reading this thread I assume they are on top of the gantries. I thought speed cameras were only on the side of the road and in yellow, or you have the average speed cameras ones like on the M25 and are high up.

Reason being is that I may have been going over the limit by a bit, so am just waiting for a letter through the post….

The Cameras for the variable speed section are mounted behind the display with the red circle and speed limit. They are painted grey too.

You can spot them quite easily as you'll see the grey boxes above the gantry, below the road signs.

They do work, the number of times I've seen them flash as people hurtle through when the speed is reduced. They were first turned on in 2009, I was contracting for Kent Police's IT department at the time and heard some interesting stories.

Heading coastbound they're on the 2nd, 4th and 6th gantry.
Heading London bound they're on the 2nd and 5th gantry.

Don't quote me on the number above because it's been a long time since I counted them - I just avoid them now.
