I'm off to Santa Monica for a couple of weeks in January for work and being that i'm renting a condo near the beach (round about Promenade Playhouse, 3rd St Promenade and Santa Monica Boulevard area), I want to go out each night for a meal at a good restaurant and I know that whole area is a shopping heaven
Although i've been to LA a few times before, i've never stayed in Santa Monica, so if anyone could advise me of good places within walking distance, I would be grateful please.

Unfortunately I dont know that many restaurants in Santa Monica.
There is a new shopping mall near to the Holiday Inn(Colorado Drive).
There are a couple of good places in there.
Theres also the Old Kings Head if you get home sick on Santa Monica Boulevard 1 or 2 blocks up from the coast road.
If you get a chance to drive up the coast, there are several on Highway 1 towards Malibu.
My favourite is the The Sunset Restaurant on Westward Beach Road, Malibu.

I would suggest some places, but the 3 weeks I spent there were a bit of a blur in and out of various sportsbars and the Kings Head
