My nephew has got himself in a spot of bother (lost job etc.) in America.

He needs to move himself and his stuff back to his mother's - a journey of about 3000 miles.

Any suggestions of the cheapest way to do this?

One-way car rental? What are the cheapest firms over there?

Grateful for any suggestions, know nothing about the US.

U-haul want nearly $1800!

I've looked at Hertz one-way rental and that's coming in at about $1000 for a 7 seater monovolume.

Wondering whether anyone had any cheaper suggestions (as I'm going to end up paying for this one)

How much "stuff"? Could he box it all up, send it UPS/FedEx Ground and buy a JetBlue one-way?

A split load carrier might be cheaper than UPS or similar. Slower though.
Look for a freight broker in his local yellow pages.

Thanks for the replies Matt & Jeff.

As you're both in the US, could you suggest any companies/web sites I could have a look at?

I've been googling all afternoon but I know nothing about the US. I haven't found anything yet frown

You could look at Yellow (YRC), JB Hunt, CR England and Old Dominion
