I'll be hiring a car and need to get from Phillie to Johnson City TN next week and as it's a last minute tip with work I havn't had much time to look into things to do and places to see en route. I'll be on my own in as large a block muscle car as Avis will have and any good tips, (petolhead related or other) are welcome. I'll leave PA Friday 27, and have Sat 28th and Sunday 29th to make the trip, and then coming back from TN to NYC on the 31st and the 1st Feb. I'd normally be looking for a rodeo or a Nascar race , but I guess in the middle of winter that's not on !

Thanks Mike

You should stay off the interstate and take the country roads through the Appalachian mountain range all the way to Johnson City. I don't think Nascar will be at Bristol, TN this time of the year.

If you are looking to go for a spirited drive, East TN, West NC has some of the best driving roads in America.

There are plenty of cabins to spend the night east of Johnson city. You could visit Pigeon Forge, Seiverville, Gaitlinburg. They are resort towns in the mountains.

You have the Kentucky bourbon trail to the west, whiskey distillers.

You have America's best whiskey distillers in Tennessee, most have tours and whisky on hand.

There are a ton of muscle car garages that will probably let you walk around their shop.

Plenty of shooting ranges you can rent guns and use their range.

Visit the Great Smoky Mountain National park, I live close by, it's a pretty awesome place if you like to be away from people and appreciate a slower way of life.

There's Dollywood, never been.

No Rodeos in TN in JAN.

50mustang thanks for this brilliant insight and all the good tips. I had started googling and had seen the skyline road and the blue ridge parkway but I think it would do my head in driving at 35 mph all the time.
I'll sit down tomorrow and use your tips do do some serious planning as I have three free days.

I've got an Avis Mustang which will be a first drive for me as last time I rented a crazy Dodge 6 litre charger I think

Thanks again,
