Hi there,
We are doing a road trip in September; circa 4,000 miles from San Fransisco, across to Grand Canyon, then back to San Fransisco through various National Parks.
We have looked on Turo but the cost of the damage cover seems expensive.
Has anyone used Turo for Car Hire in the US? Does it make it more completed being from the UK?
We’d looked at a Ford Bronco.

I've used Turo and funnily enough for a Bronco as well. I may have a different experience as I live here, but when I was booking the car I was able to choose the level of cover I wanted. I was able to select no coverage and use my own car insurance as it covers rental cars. I know they had different tiers available.
As far as I'm aware Turo would probably be the only way you'd be guarantied to specifically get a Bronco. I think some rental car companies have started stocking the Bronco Sport, but that's an inferior marketing ploy based on the s
tty Edge crossover I think.

Oh boy. You were not! Turo is not a rental company and as such is not covered by your existing policy or credit card for rental cars. ^ ThisRead the fine print on your credit card or existing insurance policy. It varies between providers and you are correct, Turo isnt a normal rental car company. I also have seen a number of reports of issues with the Turo insurance coverage though, but to be fair, you have probably seen the reports of Hertz reporting cars as stolen and getting the renters arrested.
I would be very cautious with Turo - for many it works great, but when it goes wrong, it can be pretty bad.
Yeah I think in the US Turo looks far more attractive than in the UK as they have a wider selection of people offering cars but I've seen some truly horrendous stories recently. Guy on Jalopnik has an ongoing issue where they've charged him thousands for damage from a dog to the interior. Except he doesn't own a dog. Been back and forth over a year or more and they just took the money without warning very recently.
My only experience in the UK with them was similar, GF hired an Evoque, dropped off at ours. She took loads of pics of it on arrival (and Vids) luckily. When it came time to hand back, guy picked it up, looked over the car etc all happy.
Few months later she got a debit on her Credit Card for around £600, had to look up the name as it wasn't obviously Turo. Found out it was them, she contacted them to be told the owner of the car put in a claim that she curbed all the alloys and they'd contacted her and as she hadn't responded they'd found in his favour. She checked her emails, nothing. Nothin on the app either. Turns out the email was from a different email address to the usual Turo one and had gone to spam. Luckily they agreed to review it and luckily again we had pics of the wheels (because they were 22" and ridiculous). They were all curbed a bit when he dropped it off, had been for ages.
Found in our favour eventually but was pretty shocked they just sent one email and charged the amount with no chase or reminder.
