Own up! Who switched on the 40MPH signs and the 'incident ahead' signs when a group of us went through the tunnel this morning?

There was no incident either in the tunnel or past it!

Is this the new 'traffic calming' measure to prevent tunnel running? frown
Those signs are automatic. If the system thinks there is an obstruction it will set the signs ans speed limit. The operator then checks the cctv for the obstruction, if its a false alarm then the restrictions are lifted.
When I've been in the control room, there's usually an alarm every few minutes!

Thanks for that insight! thumbup
Would a car, or two cars side-by-side, travelling at a slow speed trigger the signs?

A car on its own travelling slowly would be enough to trigger it, think the speed is quite low, somewhere around 15 mph?!?

I had the same problem a few weeks ago.

There were about 25 of us, and the speed limit was reduced just as the first cars entered the Southbound tunnel. The Northbound limit was reduced just before we got back to the tunnel.

Traffic was fairly light and I'm quite sure that there were no cars doing less than 25.

If only people driving at 40-50mph in the outside lane when the inside is clear would trigger an alarm and open a trapdoor or similar!

I was thinking on the way home tonight I need to sort this out!
What are peoples thoughts on a late night run? Or should we stick to early morning and breakfast?
I'll do the same as last time and keep it offline and email people through thier profiles.

I have had some good runs through it approaching dusk and early morning too. Although approaching dusk is fun, exhaust flames always look so much better. pls let me know if it's on a weekend.

Right guys, I'm on it, I have a date in mind for the end of September which I'll start letting people know about 3 weeks before, so in the meantime I have a list of people I contacted for the last run but feel free to register your interest in this thread or drop me a message through my profile.
