Hello all,

Broadmoor alarm has been going off for the last couple of days which is unusual for a Tuesday / Wednesday and has quite thrown my week as I keep thinking it's Monday!!!!!

Anyhow officially it's a tech fault but anyone know any different?

Didn't hear it personally, someone in the office has said it's an alarm towards Ascot.

I word not 100m from the siren in Bracknell (I can see if from my desk!) and it hasn't gone off here. Only Mondays at 10.

I thought it was 11am... or does it not change for DST?

Other than the usual Monay at 10:00, I haven't heard it - and I live "rather close"

If they turn the old Broadmoor buildings into a hotel I wonder if they'll have themed escape nights and a bit of siren action for authenticity.

Going to focus more on murder mystery, 20 year stays .

The one near Ascot went off today mid-morning. Could hear it from our house, and our boy's nursery had to follow their, 'lock-down', procedure.

As someone has said, it was a technical fault.

I'd deff be up for a spooky night there! it's just been pure luck that the government hasn't paid for me to give it a trial (see what I did there ;-) ) run!

Seriously; 6 years is the average stay and that figure is hugely skewed by the very few 30 year long timers. I always thought it was a prison but it's more of a holding cage, assessment centre for the criminally insane. As I said but for the grace of God ;-)

Having lived in Crowthorne for 15 years, I have got to know quite a few folks who work up there. It is a hospital for the criminally insane as opposed to a prison, however I don't get the impression that it is a pleasant place to be, either for the "patients" nor the staff.

From a quick google I believe Wolfman in 1991 was the last from the hospital itself (triggering the siren), but there was also a sounding in 1993 due to a stabbing incident in the hospital:

I think there have also been some "escapes" while patients have been out on rehabilitation trips outside Crowthorne, but the siren wouldn't have sounded for those.

I went to school in Crowthorne and during the years there I remember two escapes. They would keep us all behind until we were collected by parents, then on the drive home we'd get stopped at the checkpoints and the Police would check all the vehicles coming through. I seem to remember one was found just outside the grounds, he'd broken his leg going over the wall.

On of my friends works there and has done for years, some of the stories he has are shocking.

I believe the broken ankle escape would have been in 87? I was at Wellington at the time and apparently the police tracked him through the grounds?

Could well have been schoolboy stories though!
