Current Fleet as follows :

09 GTR
04 Alfa GT
07 Locost 2.0 Pinto

What would you do ?

1. Keep fleet as is and keep enjoying
2. Sell Locost invest money in GTR for track days
3. Sell all cars and upgrade commuting car and buy a better track car

Opinions welcomed

I'd keep the GTR from main track duty as they are bloody expensive.

Option 1 from me :

Sell locost and Alfa and buy a nice E36 M3 for track and daily duty.

Option 2 :

Sell all and buy :
Ferrari 355 and 530d as a daily

Option 3 :
Sell all and buy an E90 M3 or M3 CSL for both track and daily duty both leave alot of change spare or keep keep alongside be alfa.....

hehe

Thanks for the perspective all.

GTR Track Costs as an example :
Gearbox cooler : 2k
Tyres x 4 : 1.2k (probably get 4 track days or thereabouts)
New Wheels x 4 : 1k+
Discs & pads all round : 2k

My thoughts are sell Alfa and Locost and buy a Megane R26 / F1 thing - which could double up for track day duty.
E46 are now at 6k - so that could be another option

I just don't want to spend a fortune on tuning parts

Again if anyone wants part ownership of a track car let me know or point them in my direction

From what Ej was saying at Rockingham very much so....

Tyres - yikes
Brakes - yikes
Servicing
Keeping gearbox temp down or gearbox cooler is £2k

Irrelevance but fuel consumption on track is rather scary..... Plus if the worse to happen I'd imagine it's tear worthy on the flip side so is the small fortune in trackday insurance that you'll spend.

Cheap track cars are the way forward, keep the expense for the road with fully comp cover.

I do obviously see the appeal of taking a proper performance road car on track etc but after driving our Mr2 you have no worries at all in terms of possible financial doom both in crashing / repair and consumables. The Most we have to lose all in is £750 .... That's what 2/3rds of a set of tyres for a GTR ?

Megane R26 on coilovers and 888's would be epic .... However .... It's FWD wink

E46 M3 would be a good shout, how about an E46 330i with a few mods would be a good daily and good laugh on track.

You don't really say what you use each car for, that would have a big difference for me. I normally think one car that does everything is more appealing so unless there are other reasons I'd sell everything that isn't a GTR and use the money to get the most fun out of actually using the GTR. Failing that get a nice e36 M3 Evo and use that for a track car and keep the GTR for everything else.

Alfa is an oil burner for commuting i do 400+ miles a week, in the GTR that would be a small fortune. If i worked closer to home i wouldn't have th Alfa !

GTR is for fun

Locost - trackdays, but lack of roof is a concern as it does limit the ability to drive the car as i have only had it out 2 times in 2.5 months

I don't think i want to drive a track car on coilovers and 888's daily

Breaking down GTR cost in reality upfront cost could be limited to Wheels, tyres and then invest in transmission cooler at a later date with discs and pads. I would estimate i would spend circa 3-4k for trackday mods and tyres.

Anyone with a R26.R willing to give me a ride in one ? Is there a big difference between the 225 and R26.R / R23.R ?

Offers and suggesstions welcome !

No such thing as an R23R

R26 F1 - 8k - Recaros and LSD

R26R - 15k - 2 seater fixed back buckets, cage, poly carb windows, semi slicks etc if you don't want coilovers etc on a normal one you really won't want an R26R.

So Jack should sell me the MR2 for a fifty quid then

Impreza looks good but i would ideally want a STI, plus already been there in a 450/400 sti type r

I am kind of thinking i should sell the Alfa and also the Yellow Locost is up for sale (shameful plug, although i haven't placed a link but you can find it on a site close e by)

I am erring on the side of a Sti or Evo 7/8 - spare wheels and slicks, keep it standard and enjoy, plus 4 doors and can be the family car and fuel will cost more but its all good).

I have been instructed by the wife to drive the GTR more so you may see me around more

Did you get my reply to your email ?

I'd go for a turbo if I'm honest mate. N/A will be slow with all interior etc.

Main issue is rust and head gasket, check oil filler cap for cream if none there she's sweet.

Check for rust on bottom of the doors, arches , around the aerial and around the rear window.

Other than that they're solid smile

Still...... It needs a turbo for sure mate.
