Pirbright Speed limit Change!!!
Discussion
I drive this road daily, there was a patrol car parked up by a farmers gate heading away from Pirbright before the parking area a few weeks back. Guess they are spread pretty thin. People still drive too quickly past the houses, but I've not been over taken there for some time - something that was a regular occurrence when it was a 40. Shame the later section past the bridge is 30/40 - I used to really enjoy that stretch out towards Frimley Green
There are a fair few red herrings in terms of police cars down there, most of what you see will be MOD police. They don't "police" anything, so, despite the fact you may see the liveried car's, don't let that make you think any enforcement is going on.
To give an example of the MOD police, a few years ago an old lady lost control and took out the brick wall of our old neighbours house there, crashing into the undergrowth at the end of the houses. It was quite an impact. We all came out and got her out the car, and tried to assist with the situation as best we could. Literally within a few minutes of this, an MOD marked Fiesta drove along and past, slowing down to have a look, then sheepishly driving off. To say I was outraged was an understatement, and I was on the verge of making a formal complaint about it for the rest of that week it irked me so much. We were not sure whether the 70 year was injured at the point they appeared, not to mention that despite the fact they may have no official jurisdiction on public roads, it looked absolutley appauling.

I must admit to driving to the conditions rather than strictly observing the speed limit when past the houses at the Brookwood end. There are always a few parts that may catch people out though. As you come from Frimley and approaching the right side T-junction after the green the road is often wet and in winter icy on that side, plus of course the junction just there. At the same point in the other direction as you round the corner and the road straightens out there is often tree debris protruding into the road too. At the Frimley end by the dilapidated house that section always seems a little slipperier when wet.

Do you live there? If so enjoy...
I don't live there, but it's not a problem restricted to Pirbright. All areas are affected by serial speeders. Not a week goes by without an article in our local press highlighting residents in a road, a street or pupils and teachers from a school etc appealing for drivers to slow down.
It seems that everyone is in a big hurry these days, but not so, they just like to drive faster.
And as for 'Driving to the conditions'.....
Glad you had success in your area.
My comment was meant to read as when gone past the houses and not as when passing the houses. I'm not going to be hypocritical and say I never speed when I do. Observing the other drivers locally I can't say I'm much different. Driving like everybody else though doesn't make it "right" admittedly.
I can see both sides and am guilty of both.
There is a lot to be said for driving to the conditions and I am all for it. Problem comes when you are on the receiving end of daily abuse and noise past your front door. That really escalates when you have to park on the road to unload the car with shopping/kids/animals and have to take your life in your own hands.

I always suspect that it's not driving to THE conditions, but to the drivers perceived conditions, that are not neccesarily the same thing. There is a lot to be said for driving to the conditions and I am all for it. Of course the "conditions" are subjective. The only non arguable thing is the speed limit. After all I'm not going to drive to your conditions as your perceived risk, assessment of the grip and visibility will be different to mine, the cyclist, the guy off to walk his dog, the person late for church etc. Everyone has a different level of ability, confidence, zeal and even enthusiasm or desire to drive quick or slow.
Indeed.
Since moving to Frimley I have managed a nice average of 58mph through the bends from Pirbright to Frimley.
Of course, for the purpose of prosecution, it's all bravado. I could never do that in a 1 litre car. (Unless you were to maintain your speed throughout, but that would be hard, I guess)

Sorry to hear of your issues OP.
Back in 2005 I moved to a house in Sandhurst - after exchange of contracts the seller assured me a commute to Windsor would be no problem (but it was a painful, tedious, time-consuming, miserable process)!
I should have done my own research before going there - is it possible you should have done some yourself?!
I hope the elderly lady who crashed wasn't doing 3 times the speed limit! But I would guess she was probably travelling at no more than half the speed limit, in which case maybe speed is not the fundamental problem?
Used to love a blast across Cemetery Pales, then someone built a load of lumps at the end! (Mind you before that on one Sunday morning I did see a car marooned in the pond)!
