Pirbright Speed limit Change!!!
Discussion
Just as an update to this, had an email through today regarding the section past the cottages at the start of the bends... It reads:
"Dear -----
At a meeting of the SCC Guildford local Committee held yesterday it was agreed:
"Agreed that a 30mph speed limit is introduced in Gole Road (currently 40mph) from the junction with the A243 Dawney Hill to a point approximately 1/2km to the west. "
These things don't happen instantly, as there is a legal process to go through of traffic notices etc, but the decision is approved. There was also discussion regarding the installation of a "village gateway" as a visible way of helping to reduce traffic speeds, they are the white picket fences on either side of a road.
The other parts of the Pirbright road safety scheme is due to be progressed shortly, but I thought you would like to know about the above. Do feel free to pass on to other residents
Regards"

We live at the other end of the Pirbright bends ie near Frimley Green. We have exactly the same issues here. Seems houses were only built on the straights! I am pleased Dizzee has been successful in his campaign. Thank you for your efforts. The speed limit by our house is 60 mph and still I estimate some do double that. We can hear motorbikes lighting up the rear wheels as they go airborne into the dip. Accident rate seems to have gone up as when I got hold of some police stats some years back it was just one police attendance a month on average. Fingers crossed things will slow down.

Your estimation is based upon what then?
Your own experience ?

I know some people do speed around there, but doing an estimated 120 near the Frimley Green / Deepcut end where it goes from a straight into the downward hill (or doing it in reverse & heading into the straight after the climb up the hill) does sound somewhat unlikely tbh, as i'd imagine there would be an ever growing number of vehicles in the foliage if that was the case.
Well maybe 120 is optimistice but the peice of road I am referring to is not the run up from the canal bridge. If a decent bike hoofs it from the Deepcut Bridge Road junction towards Pirbright then there is 500 odd meters to the crest. Counting their gear changes implies they are going very quickly indeed. Fortunately not every one does this. Some people however will spend two or three hours just going back and forth up though the bends on a nice sunny day going quicker and quicker. And yes I would say the crash count has increased as I mentioned that some years back the police were attending incidents once a month (36 incidents in 3 years from the data I recieved) but now it is about twice a month (77 in 3.5 years).
Whatever the case, it is a fast fun road but some go too far. If all people having fun didn't do so near any houses I doubt the residents would be so bothered by it or at risk.

Malcolm you must be in one of those houses I look longingly at as I go past. I am by the green. I can well believe that a powerful bike can hit over 3 figures as going the other way from the crest you can reach 3 figures in a not that powerful sports type car as you approach the junction.
A bike can be at 60mph in a few seconds, even a non powerful one. My 650 would it when I had it. There is enough road my end for cars to hit 100 as they go past the house, even higher speeds are achievable with a bike.
The bends limit change was nothing to do with me Malcolm, that had already gone through, my work was for just for our stretch of houses at the Pirbright end.

Looks like we'll have to go through all this again. Most of the twisty stretch between Mytchett Place Road and Pirbright has been reduced from an NSL to a 30!
This morning was dreadful, I caught up a queue of about 15 cars that were all tailing a car at the front that was sticking to the 30 limit. As soon as a straight-ish bit came up 3 or 4 cars pulled out to go past the one at the front. The new 30 limit's going to cause frustration, which will cause more accidents. Great

Wow 3 or 4 cars going for a simultaneous overtake sounds dangerous to me. 2 going for an overtake at speed is pushing it already!
I failed to mention it, but this was all towards a blind bend and the last two cars couldn't be 100% certain that nothing was going to round the bend in the opposite direction. In a nutshell, new 30mph will cause frustration leading to optimistic overtakes when even half an opportunity arises.
I guess that is the straight section between the golf course and the rail bridge bend. From a standing start overtake I can see big problems with 3 cars going for that but if you wind it up before the kink and care less for the speed limit you could sneak 2 at a push. Even so possibly quite dangerous to do that even now as the roadside edge is heavily waterlogged.
