Well that made for a rather disappointing drive today. I know other people have probably already done so, but I finally had a free day and a chance to drive the bends and familiarise myself with the new limits & was rather surprised to find it being 40 all the way from the barracks with what seems like an excessive drop to 30 quite some way before the junction at the railway bridge. It's even 40 on the bits going back towards Frimley Green/Deepcut. I was hoping at least some of the NSL would have been kept but sadly not frown

So the only NSL bit left now is the recently resurfaced stretch that runs into Pirbright if you want to avoid the traffic lights at Brookwood.

Still rather surprised however to find the speed limit past the cottages is still 40mph confused I guess that will drop to 30 sooner or later (as planned) Surely it would have been easier to do all the signage changes in one go including past the cottages confused

More annoyingly (as i found today) is that it would appear the people who used to struggle to ever go over 40 when it was NSL, are now the same people who are unwilling to do more than 30mph max banghead

I also noticed there were far more driving school cars on that stretch today than I've ever seen before, so I guess they're now using it more since the NSL was dropped. It would be nice if the people they're instructing could at least make an effort to get over 20 in the 30 section however banghead

Rant over hehe

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm driving it several times a week and driving as I did before.

You can still carry a decent pace on some of it, but be careful along the part where Grange Road meets School road in Pirbright at the end of the bends as the Scamera vsn likes to sit there frown

If anything people doing 30 on that road are better than people doing 50 as they are easier to overtake.

After getting some codes read at Frimey111R's place I headed over to the bends in the new toy today, still had fun on the deserted bits but it takes the edge off knowing technically you are in ban territory according to the signs... Then as I turn a bend there's a police SLOW sign and lo and behold an old 3 series in a ditch! Some things don't change! My guess is poor tyres, big ego, slightly damp, and off we go. Didn't look in the slightest bit hurt probably just a bruised ego smile

Yep. I love those bends, can average a pretty decent speed along them now, as long as it's clear. (Need all of the road). Thank god I no longer live on them!

Oh you moved then! Yeah can't blame you! Are they still being speed enforced like there were reports of a while ago?

No enforcement. Aside from the fact there are no officers left to enforce speed the layout of the road makes it almost impossible unless they park down by the houses. I saw a local Bobby enforcing it once in 6 years when I lived there but I can't imagine they would bother now.

With the brighter weather watch out for cyclists round your blind bend. I always prefer to drive quickly there in the dark, it's actually even easier to overtake then.

Dizeee has a point, who the hell would want to live there with cars going hell for leather past the front door.

I suspect people will ignore the speed limits....

Oh and I think the issue with those roads is damp leaves more than anything else. Can get a bit sketchy when pressing on during autumn/winter down there. Dry Summer nights are great.

It's a lot better now than it used to be. When we moved in it was common for people to go feet from the front door at about 60mph often much more. I've seen bikes well into 3 figures there. Pulling out of the parking bay opposite often meant pulling out into the path of overtaking cars at circa 70mph.

Yep, I put a lot of work into this so glad it has paid off.

My work was solely around the residential end, nothing to do with the bends themselves, FWIW the limit change and signage there had already been agreed and signed off when I presented the petition for our end of the road.

We should be getting two physical features (chicanes with priorty arrows) past the houses, making it impossible for anyone to do the usual 80mph + past the front door.

It's been a long time coming, and the 40mph limit outside the houses is woefully inadequate, dangerous and ignored by practically everyone.
This post brings joy to my aching heart. Well done sir!
