Sounds awful for all concerned, sympathy for the Police officer too.
Hope he makes a full recovery, RIP to the victim

"A man has been killed after being struck by a police car in Cemetery Junction in the early hours of this morning.

A police officer was also injured after being hit by the vehicle responding to a burglary in Eastern Avenue at around 1.45am.

The officer has been taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. The man was declared dead at the scene.

The A329 Wokingham Road between Hamilton Road and London Road has been closed while police carry out their investigations.

London Road, Eastern Avenue, Hamilton Road, Bulmershe Road and Cemetery Junction are closed at their junctions with Wokingham Road.

The incident has already been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The road is expected to remain closed to traffic and pedestrians for several hours, causing chaos for commuters."

11.11hrs still closed.....

VV given it happened just on the Hamilton Road/Wokingham Road junction and said police car was going to a burglary in Hamilton Road makes me wonder if there's more to it than meets the eye?

Explains why the 190 bus was trying to get under the flyover at The George on Loddon Bridge Rd. With the Wokingham Rd & A329M closed he was obviously searching for a route & unluckily for him chose the one he couldn't get under.

Makes you wonder how the pedestrian missed a police car with lights ablaze (maybe no sirens) but I would imagine in the middle lane of three on that stretch of road. Not like they've just stepped off the kerb in front of them.

The dead male was a burglar according to this report
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/burglar-run-o...

I'm going to have a guess that the bobby was chasing the burglar when they were both struck by the car, the burglar died.

Word has it that two would-be burglars try to break into the cycle shop by climbing up onto the flat roof over the showroom. They then try to hack their way in using an axe - nuff said!
Locals contact BiB who attend and persuade one of the perps to come down.
The other climbs over an adjacent roof, drops onto the pavement and legs it.
One BiB pursues and perp crosses the road straight in front of newly arriving Police car (presumably perp heading to Cemetery wall for escape).
Road/weather conditions (dark and hissing down with rain) such that driver has no chance of stopping - fatal and tragic results.
Local paper talks of "kind and loving father"...
Tough all round, Pewe.
