Does anyone have the pleasure of using the Black Dam roundabout on a regular basis?
They are finally starting the work soon to 'improve' this roundabout and there is an exhibition in the local library

In my opinion, the work is not enough, the only thing that would sort this roundabout out, is a flyover, so that that the traffic can flow all of the time from north- south, to and from the M3. However the traffic lights are phased and however many lanes there are, the traffic still needs to be stopped and that is a problem.
I guess its a money thing though. A flyover would be very expensive

Anyone have an opinion?

I use it every day. That plan should help but its a lot for a not enough improvement IMO. I'm also really (!) looking forward to the roadworks there!!

It will cause chaos in the short term that is for sure!

My view is that it will solve nothing and serve only to shift the problem 1/2 mile up the road!

Bump.

Work originally supposed to have been finished in July. Highways England website now says November but there's still loads to do - best estimate I've heard is March or April. Is it normal for a 12-month project to overrun by 9 months?

Added to this are the M3 bridge works between J8 and J5 (50mph limit) and the 6-weeks of gas-main work then three new sets of lights due on the A30 coming in from J7 so there's even more reason to avoid Basingstoke than usual!

ridiculous delays- they did come up with some excuses but I cannot what they were!

Waitrose/John Lewis opened yesterday in Basingstoke and they busted a gut to get that open on time, so they did not lose money- guess different rules apply to road building...

I live in Chineham (Reading side of Basingstoke) and the council have a got of ton of funding to improve the A33, so all the roundabouts are going to altered and traffic lights added

"Basingstoke MP Maria Miller said the delay is “completely unacceptable” and has called for an “urgent review”.

And what exactly does she think this "urgent review" will achieve?

Hopefully a massive fine for the contractors. (Yeah right)

And when there is a power outage drivers manage just fine without the lights just like Bracknell

Surely there must be penalties for over running on this type of work?? Surely they don't get paid any more than the original cost?

I know an estimater at builder Taylor Woodrow fked up by about £3m on an £11m job a couple of years ago and half the staff had to be laid off.

And unfortunately, the people of Basingstoke saw fit to vote the thief back in. A sad situation.

The proposed additional housing around Basingstoke, is going to put a lot more cars on the road, especially near junction 7, which only has the single access road into the town, past Sainsburys, never mind the mess (Not entirely unexpected given previous road improvements overruns) at Blackdam.

Don't forget the new hospital on the A30 just north of junction 7.

Good to see they're busily landscaping topsoil and planting trees and shrubs in the middle.
Meanwhile nothing's happened for weeks to the large areas of unmade road surface, gantries or signalling.

Probably find that the council are landscaping, and work has stopped on the road whilst a "fine" is negotiated for the late finishing.
B0llocks to the end user as always.
