Noticed some small cameras and large data boxes attached to road signs in the roads near the A404 Burchetts Green roundabout. Anyone got an idea what they're being used for? They're not speed cameras, but smaller and aimed towards number plates. Thinking some kind of ANPR used to monitor traffic flow ready for some new traffic management scheme around Bisham Abbey and Burchetts Green.

If they are very small cameras with cabinets at ground level they are likely to be survey cameras, used for collecting traffic count data, presumably as a precursor to some traffic modelling or junction analysis. This roundabout has been under consideration for a change for some time.

They were also on the roundabout on the main road into Marlow between the new retirement homes and the BP petrol station yesterday. Will be interesting to see if this leads to anything.

Yep I noticed them around the Bisham roundabout, the A404 itself and the road going up to Pinkneys Green. There have been a couple of vans with some traffic counting/survey people in them parked just off the roundabout too.

No big mystery that they're most likely looking carefully at the traffic flows around that bit of the a404 to figure out how to sort out the congestion there. There was a recent improvement plan that got laughed out of court as it so clearly not going to make any difference.

The A404 is a tough one really. At normal rush hour times, is it incredibly busy at either end, and at the middle Bisham too, mainly as it's the only viable link from the M4 to the M40, and if they or the M25 are in bad shape people try to use it to escape the congestion.

I think the only way to resolve it would be to complete the a329 link across the Thames and drive a link up through the lovely bit of southern Chilterns to Stokenchurch. i.e. will never happen, so I'll just have to live with the fact if I time it wrong, it will take me over an hour to drive the 8 miles to work.
