Hi Guys, anyone on here know Oxford well? I have a meeting tomorrow at Oxford University Press (OUP) in Walton Street in the Jerico area. I've heard there's some pay & display in the back streets around there behind the Press but I don't want to wind up spending half an hour driving round looking for a space. Anyone know that area and what's it like getting parked mid-week / mid morning around 10:00am? I know Oxford is a nightmare for cars but driving is easiest for me. scratchchin Thoughts?

Not sure what parking there is around Walton Street, but I can't imagine there is a great deal. There are a few places a short walk away which shouldn't be a problem though like the pay and display street parking at St Giles. There is also a car park at Worcester St a little further away or the Westgate car park a bit further again.

I've not had issues getting into the Westgate during the week, but its quite expensive which puts off people from parking there when they go to work.

Thanks, I guess I'll have a tour round Jerico and see if there's a Pay & Display space if not go to one of the car parks.

There is pay and display on some of those streets certainly, two-hours max I think. Definitely on Beaumont Street and St Giles. I haven't been up Jericho for a while, but there certainly used to be meters up St John St and around Wellington Square too. There is also an underground car park off Beaumont St under Gloucester Square (Weirdly, although it is barrier controlled it is still pay and display not pay on exit, although RingGo works there too.)

You're basically buggered. Gloucester green has an underground, it's £25 a day. Maybe 2 mins walk. Else you could book a space on just park.com. Some for £15/day. Else it's the train station or multi-storey.

Most places are 2 hours, so be careful.

You may get parking on an off road up Woodstock road, but it'll be a fair walk. Or park and ride is £5 a day, try eaton, it comes down Banbury road, there is a stop for Jerico, just give your self time!

Peartree Park & Ride will bring you down the Woodstock Road, better bet than trying to find spaces in the City.

I've used "Park at my Place", or similar when I visit Oxford.

Gloucester Green underground car park worked fine thank chaps, £7.50 for 3 hours and half empty when I arrived. Mind you with that in mind, as I was paying some Americans in a hired Ford people carrier were trying to squeeze into a small gap between another car and a side wall. "Go on, go on" shouts the chap at his wife doing the driving when suddenly smack, she reverses into the back wall at the back! Why do people do this when half the car park was completely empty. Then on leaving as I rolled to stop at a red light with a crossing a middle aged woman glares at me and mouths "fk Off!" presumably because the PDK made some burbling noise as it dropped into 1st but I was quite shocked at how angry she was. This while completely ignoring the cyclist who flew stright through behind her and in front of another pedestrian at full tilt on the red as if it's an everyday occurrence. Funny place Oxford. laugh

That is totally the Oxford driving experience!
Especially the cyclists who don't think signals apply to them.
Oh and the increasingly elaborate attempts of the Council to gridlock the city...
Fortunately few people in Oxford do early starts so driving to the station at 6am is quite clear!

Ill monkey - where do you keep your car?

i do the early shift, at my desk before 7:30, it's just easier! It's in Gloucester green car park, the private bits.

As you go down the ramp and it turns left, there are shutters on the left and right, these are the private bits.

The private bits are for the flats above the parking. I rent a space from a tentant who doesn't drive. Most of the spaces are rented out. They rarely come up for rent, and when they do, they last all of 2 seconds. I pay close to £200/month for one. Beats £25/day for the public car park.

Definitely- that's very smart...
Decent deal and in the middle of Oxford...
On the weekends there are cars queuing for spaces in the public car park...
