Silver Chrysler Voyager slammed on its brakes in front of my wife on an empty roundabout - the roundabout on the A325 / next to Farnborough Gate Retail Park back near the beginning of January. Not a lot my wife could do, and hit them at around 5 mph. Damage to our car? A cracked number plate, and a hole in the bumper where their tow bar ball went in to it.

Lone female driver in the Chrysler - had a call from our insurance company yesterday telling us that they have received 4 personal injury claims. As my wife is only 99% sure the driver was on their own, Direct Line have said that they have to pay.

The reason the driver suddenly stopped?? "I stopped so I could put my wipers on" - despite it having been raining heavily for at least half an hour beforehand.

So there you go - if you're in the area, keep your eyes out for the scam.

Have you reported it to the local officers? There may have been more in the area

Report it, there was a lot of stuff about this on the TV last night (car crash Britain). Insurance companies do spend a lot of time investigating these things and that sounds exactly like a scam to me.

I had someone try this in front of me. They looked genuinely disappointed that I didn't hit them.

Although this crash for cash stuff does happen, it is also the norm now that in any accident, people will do what they can do claim, despite the circumstances. This is now the culture, there is nothing to be lost by trying and everything to be gained. It may be that the car involved in your wife's collision was a genuine run of the mill member of the public who has since been advised by family members to go down this route.

It has happened to me, I had a small knock with a lovely new female driver who could not have been nicer at the scene and was 100% genuine. She admitted liability at the scene and it was mostly me comforting her. Post the knock, and after advice from parents no doubt, she became difficult and hard to contact through the insurers, followed by a liability query. This is still ongoing today and could have been dealt with a year ago. The costs that have come out of it so far are eye watering.

I would suggest that this is similar to the OP's scenario. It has to be said crash for cash in general though will always be a problem. It is basically impossible to prove without an admission which you will never get as that would also be an admission to insurance fraud. Therefore it is not something that can be effectively with. The same applies to the taxi driver who "gets rear ended at 20mph and whilst clutching their neck demands to be cut out of their vehicle as they are in so much pain". It is a monumental waste of time, and again, nobody not even the ambulance paramedics at the scene are in a position to call bullst. You have to go with the symptoms presented and assume a worst case scenario, so these con artists get it all their own way and waste a huge amount of resources in the meantime.

Unfortunately this something that will be getting a lot more prevalent over the next few years.

Well worth reporting in case person/car/relations all appear to start having many similar claims. Reporting this incident could help them build a bigger picture should they need to.

Is stopping on a roundabout to put your wipers on legitimate??

I got a cheapo dashcam that does the job ok and I find it reassuring after the hassle I had last year when a lorry suddenly turned in front of me and I ended up hitting it in the side. Although I was in the clear in the end, these things take an awfully long time and you cant help but wonder if the other party is trying to worm out of it

Just so all you people who are sad enough to read and believe these pathetic stories that get posted on here... let me fill you in with a bit of truth on this one....

This was no scam as you have stated James, which may I also remind you is a case of slander....

I personally know the driver of the Chrysler which was involved in this incident, and yes it was your wife you went into the back of her car and there was also 3 other people in the Chrysler as well as the driver!!!

Things you need to explain to this forum is how the female driver managed to get your wife's name and phone number???? also the registration of your car??? also explain how your wife offered for you James to repair the Chrysler, as there was minor damage caused so the insurers would not need to be involved?????

However upon this happening I will now tell this forum that when the driver tried contacting your wife she then denied that it was her or her vehicle that was involved and that she had been at home all day!!!! please feel free to state that this was a lie which then makes you also a liar!!!!! Due to this happening the driver of the Chrysler then said that because she denied the incident took place that she would inform the police as she had a registration of the other car involved!!!! 30 mins later, you James then rang the driver back and admitted that it was your wife driving and who had hit the Chrysler and then you admitted liability to the insurers!!!!!???? please explain this???????

Explain to us all when you have come on here stating something with no truth behind it!!!! and please also explain to the forum how it was you and your wife that lied about causing injury and tried cheating someone out of their car being repaired after your wife at fault through crashing into the Chrysler.

I assure this forum the driver was not involved in any scam!!! The wife of James is either blind or also lying about the 3 other pax who did suffer injuries in the Chrysler. James and his wife are trying to lie to and fool to people as they have not owned up to what has been caused. This post has become public through other means such as Facebook which is causing stress on the driver of the Chrysler and her family and the other pax in the car.

James just to let you know, as the insurers know you have already admitted liability, I am sure that they would be interested in this post. I am pretty sure the police would also take an avid interest in this, as it is an act of slander on the character of the Chrysler driver. Feel free to delete this post as I have already screen shot it, so if she wishes to pursue you on the matter then the evidence is there for the police.

Be careful who you talk about in open forum's James as you never know who can see!!!!!
