Thought I'd update this one.

Two personal injury claims have now been settled, plus the damage to the Chrysler (we made no claim for our car as it was just a cracked bumper on a 14 year old Volvo).

Total payout for a 5mph crash? £7631.39.
Pretty amazing and frustrating that an insurance company would pay out based on the facts - but it does suggest I'm in the wrong line of "work". I guess this could only be combated by a dash cam front and rear or it luckily being witnessed by the police?

Shame the crash wasnt much more serious. By serious I mean deadly....

That sentence would've been better if you'd added "Mr Bond" to the end of it.

Might help if whiplash claims were only paid for medical expenses rather than cash with no proof of injury.

Would my insurance cover me if I punched one of these cash for crash dicks in the face?

I'm in Farnborough, and had a chap try and get me three times this morning in 1/4 mile, he was driving a red 51 plate Zafira (old one, faded paint).

I was following him up the A325 from Farnborough towards Aldershot, he tried it at the top of the hill by the tech college (Church Avenue) junction, then at the Barons traffic lights, and again by the Falcon hotel.

Each time, he gently slowed down so I'd naturally catch him up, then checked his mirror, then braked hard. He made no attempt to turn left at either of the junctions, and the lights at Barons were green.

Upgraded brakes in the MINI certainly paid off.

Yup, I have his reg number here on my desk, and will do it at lunchtime.

I'd almost believe he was looking for a turning if it wasn't for him trying it at the lights as well.

Definitely worth reporting.

Not sure what the rules are about posting the reg but I live in the area so it would be good to know what to keep an eye open for.

It was a local Reading 51 plate, last three characters are URH - typical Vauxhall faded red with a few stickers in the back window.

Report it by all means but the issue is you can never prove who was driving or what their intentions were at the time. That's why this issue will never go away unfortunately.

I did report it, and the fact the same car is currently advertised on Autotrader allegedly on a forecourt in Dunstable!

Not sure why it was all the way down here yesterday morning.

It wasn't. They will be two separate cars most probably.

Cloned vehicle, usually get the plate from a picture on auto trader and get one made up.
If we get a suspicious car knocking around, 1st thing we do is check autotrader, if we find the car within the 1st or 2nd page of results, it's usually nicked

If you were trying to cause accidents so you could make dubious injury insurance claims - surely it wouldn't make sense to have a fake number plate on your car? I'd think you'd need everything on the car to be legal?

another reason why we should all have dash cams. when on video its totally un questionable then as to how many people were in the car and the speed you were travelling at.

my go pro is always on now when I go out. came in handy a few weeks ago with a dispute....the other driver was all front, swearing, going to do this and that to me.

perfect I said. smile for the camera while you are there face. oops!! all there for the police when they turned up. total fault on his side and no impact on my insurance. went for a gap that was not there with cars on his side of the road.

Handy as they may be, when following other vehicles it may give an indication of the number of occupants but rarely will it confirm identity. It can also never confirm speed.

Bit like police body cam. Can give a good view of a possible offender but no indication of the level of red mist building up smile

Sometimes these are not intended crash for cash. It's pushy no-win no-fee lawyers!

My mum changed lane late approaching a roundabout. Another car, although approaching a bit fast from behind her, had intended to take a dedicated slip lane to the left. My mum went into his lane and they both slowed down but the other car got a scratch on the side. My mum's car was virtually unscathed.

Before she could settle a claim, the other driver changed his claim to £4000 whiplash. She wouldn't have that and did not settle since there was no way he had whiplash from a slight scratch on the side of his car, no frontal impact.

In the end, this went on for over a year and she had to settle £10,000. His claim kept on increasing over the course of the year.

I think the guy did not intend to claim so much originally but you know when you have an accident then these no-win fee lawyers have their agents like hawks hounding you down. The attraction to that guy to gain so much money if he was willing to lie in court was too tempting.
