Councillor Chris Turrell said:
The Coral Reef junction will only be able to cope with the increased traffic flows in future if we make these changes. The scheme will reduce congestion and improve travel through the borough in the years to come.
What utter tosh - everyone knows that increased traffic levels plus traffic lights = increased congestion. The only correct answer would be to build an underpass for A322 through-traffic to avoid interacting with local traffic. This opportunity was also missed at M4 jc11 - and now it again attracts jams as bad as before it was built.

This was first raised last year!
They have also put lights on the next roundabout as you travel towards the town, have added some to the Twin Bridges roundabout (there are now 7 sets if you do a lap, and you'll probably have to stop at 3 at least) and are going to add lights to some more!shoot
If I didn't work in Bracknell I would never go near it - it's a fcensoredg sh*thole anyway. Glad I only work 3 days a week, and one of those is Saturday when my 7 mile commute takes 15 minutes instead of the 40+ minutes on weekdays!
Then they bang on about the wonderful transport links it has - well maybe if you work nights, but you will still at lights waiting for no oncoming traffic. banghead

The lights at the sports centre roundabout cause issues too. If you're coming from the M3 towards the town centre the traffic turning right backs up blocking the traffic going straight on.

Nothing good will come from these lights!

They should have actually done the M31 it would have made so much difference.

Yes but they seem to be far too short-sighted and anti-motorist to do anything like that!
At least now when they have a crash at the new Coral Reef lights it will be a proper one with one vehicle travelling at 70ish hitting another in the side - like the many I have seen at the Sainsburys/Hilton roundabout where there is always an ambulance in attendance.
If they left the roundabout nobody is going more than about 20 mph, and you don't end up with no traffic flow in any direction for a few seconds every minute while all lights are red.
You also don't sit waiting for nothing at red lights when it is quiet.
Half-wit and non-driver must be in list of required attributes for road planning roles in Bracknell Forest!
Think I need to move!!

I don't understand why they're doing this - Milton Keynes was built with the same ideas in mind as bracknell was. It is a joy to drive around that town - very few traffic lights, many roundabouts and very little in the way of congestion (when i've been there anyway.) Roundabouts work, it seems nothing short of retarded blocking them with traffic lights. How much better does the showcase roundabout work when the lights are out - far, far better, save at peak times.

All these lights should be peak periods only in my opinion.

I had to drive from Binfield to South Hill Park this evening at 18:10-ish, all of about 6 miles - took just over 45 mins! The entire area was gridlocked (including the local rat runs) - I can only imagine how much worse it will get once the Coral Reef roundabout becomes more of a bottle-neck than it already is, couple that with the work on the A329M, and planned roadworks in the middle of Bracknell I can't see anyone getting in or out by the summertime.....

In addition to the changes planned for a lot of the major roads through Bracknell, a number of the roads that keep local traffic away from the main roads have proposals to make them one way, or close them to through traffic. I can only assume Bracknell Forest Council have staffed their planning dept with apprentices or tree-huggers hell bent on forcing people to abandon their cars in favor of the comprehensive and reliable local public transport system............oh, wait......! wink

In the next 10 years there are plans to build an additional 13,000 houses in the Northern Arc of Bracknell (Wokingham through to Warfield) but no plans for additional road infrastructure...........needless to say we will be moving from the area once the kids finish school!

Hopefully they will find some IS members there and bomb it out of existence, soon please.
Must be great to live somewhere you enjoy - any tips welcome; please!!!

Why do they need to change the junction? Is this to help traffic coming onto the junction from Crowthorne and Martins Heron???

Transport councillor must be a muppet ,what a waste of money and off peak Hours going to waste a lot of time
Environmentally sitting at lights off peak is worse for the tree hugger society as will pollute more

Are they really too stupid to see that traffic moves better with roundabouts? Sitting at lights waiting whilst nothing is coming is annoying and very stupid of road planners.

Either stupid (likely) or backhanders from traffic light suppliers and electric companies.

I have to drive through Tadley every day. The big "roundabout" there by the Shell station used to be no bother at all, there was never any traffic hold-ups there in any direction. A couple of years ago they put 3 sets of traffic lights on it. Now I always get caught by at least 1, sometimes 2, occasionally even 3 sets of lights getting around there. There are sometimes big tail-backs waiting at the lights and that is having knock-on effects on other areas that never had a problem before. I'm sure it won't be long before they put in more traffic lights down the roads leading to the roundabout to control traffic approaching it. All they need to do to get traffic flowing again is to rip the bloody things out and let the traffic sort itself out!

They must be getting the same back-handers from traffic light companies as the Council in Southampton do.

This happens in both directions. If you are in the queue turning right at the roundabout you can find yourself stationary in a traffic lane where people are approaching you very quickly from behind expecting to go straight on unimpeded, it's bloody dangerous.

Personally think they should at least trial it just puts lights on the current roundabout before spending 7 million

What happens if there is a few accidents once lights out in do councillors hold there hands up and say we got it wrong

Well what would you expect in the real world - you know, the one politicians do not inhabit or connect with!

Probably answers the question, but maybe the lights never go out because the councillors have shares in the electricity supplier!

So you know what to ask when the next local council election is approaching!

I live very close to that junction - the lights there aren't the problem. Jams there are caused by the stupid lights outside of Sainsburys.

I don't go that direction. I come from the Silchester direction and head towards Kingsclere so I'm not affected at all by the Sainsburys traffic lights.
However, until the lights were put onto that roundabout there was never any traffic hold-up there in any direction. They are just pointlessly causing hold-ups. As traffic lights on roundabouts almost always do.

They did the same between Newbury & Thatcham on the A4, used to be all mini roundabouts, which worked very well, then they decided it had to be traffic lights at every junction, queues ever since.....
