Can anyone give me any advice whether a school run from Elstead to Guildford is feasible please?

We'll be relocating to the area this summer and have got our daughter into a decent Guildford school so now we're looking for a house - Elstead seems nice but we're worried about school run times so can anyone help with any advice please?

Many thanks.

It depends which school it is, as there are several ways to avoid the A3/A31 pinchpoint. But still be prepared to sit in traffic whichever way you go; an electric car would actually make sense if it's just for the school run.

You might be better off living in Milford/Godalming/Farncombe so she can get the train, house prices aren't too dissimilar to Elstead.

Guildford is generally hideous to drive through at rush hour. If it's GHS or Tormead then the train makes sense as London Road station is so close. There'll be plenty of other kids doing it, too.

Whereabouts in Guildford?

I do a similar commute into the town centre and have to leave at 8am to guarantee being there for 9am.

There are a few rat runs that will get you to the edge of town, it's the last few miles that take the time.

As someone else mentioned Id seriously consider the train from Milford if Guildford or London road stations are near enough to the school.

Does the school have a bus service?

It’s already been mentioned but what about dropping your daughter at Milford or godalming station?

I used to commute to London from Aldershot & saw plenty of children in Guildford uniforms heading for the Guildford train, seemed a fairly common practice - the train coming up from Alton (where I now live) arrives in Aldershot about 5 minutes before the Guildford train leaves iirc. Could be an option to drop at Farnham / Aldershot - much easier than getting to Guildford by car.

I wouldn't drive into Guildford for the school run, its a nightmare; I live in Guildford and commute out of Guildford for 12 miles, every morning there is horrendous traffic going into Guildford from any direction.

A train would be the preferred option, either station is ideal for the RGS, Girls High School or Tormead; London Road being closer to the Girls High and Tormead though.

I'm assuming it's one of the three above?

I head down the a3 at around 7.30 to the a3/31 pinch point which is normally just slowing down. Hate to think what a 8.30 attempt would be like.

Thank you for all the advice, especially about the trains which may beof some use when Miss E24man is older. It turns out the school doors open at 8am so the school run from anywhere should avoid a great deal of the slightly later commuter traffic.
