I agree, no fires tomorrow please, took me almost an hour to get from Cloche Hat/Stovells Chobham to Woking today!
Yesterday Sunningdale was a joke!
That's assuming they got it put out of course.Yesterday Sunningdale was a joke!
It was apparently the size of 42 football pitches, and if it's anything like Swinley Forest a few years back, that took days to put out.
It's where the hard shoulder is used as a "live" lane when there's congestion, the whole motorway is guided by overhead gantries.

Silly question what the hell is a "Smart Motorway" does it have a PHD from Oxford ?
It's all lane running. I think the "smart" ideas behind it, is that when there is an incident, the Highways agency set the overhead gantries, which will get everyone to move out of the lane..... this in fact doesn't work. They've had it down at Clackets for a little while and no one moves over, that ignore the red x and it just creates traffic chaos. Emergency service vehicles can't get through to assist and as HATO can't use lights to cut through traffic and no one let's then by, it means it will take longer to sort out.
Even our bikes are finding it difficult to filter through, so an X5 has no chance.
The only way smart motorways will work, is for the public to assist us and clear a space, but it's not going to happen
They have it on the M42 and it is very strange
There are also refuge/lay bys at regular points in case someone does break down for them to try and get to these
£170m for the M3

Just to be pedantic, the M42 is a hard shoulder running scheme (that is there is still a hard shoulder, but it can be used as directed by the overhead signs.)There are also refuge/lay bys at regular points in case someone does break down for them to try and get to these

The M3 is going to be (as furry says) an All Lane Running motorway (there being no hard shoulder at all - 4 lanes instead of h/s and 3 lanes)
Don't matter how many lanes you got will always be pea brained idiots
like the one yesterday in his nice white X5 towing his bent up racecar that thought it would be a good idea to play silly buggers with a 32 ton tanker by slowing to 5mph after pulling in front for no good reason as lane was empty in front and then wondered why after doing this for 300 yards he got a helping push to see him on his way.
Funny that when the traffic comes to a halt 5 miles further along the driver declined my offer to exit and park up and discuss ...... spineless to55er I was looking forward to that.
No wonder his racecar was bent like a banana

Were you driving the tanker? Maybe not very clever to admit you deliberately drive in to someone in an HGV... like the one yesterday in his nice white X5 towing his bent up racecar that thought it would be a good idea to play silly buggers with a 32 ton tanker by slowing to 5mph after pulling in front for no good reason as lane was empty in front and then wondered why after doing this for 300 yards he got a helping push to see him on his way.

Fair enough- I did not read the article properly, I though it was going to be a smart motorway in that the hard shoulder would only be used when needed. 4 lanes all the time is good, especially approaching the M25The M3 is going to be (as furry says) an All Lane Running motorway (there being no hard shoulder at all - 4 lanes instead of h/s and 3 lanes)

Personally I don't give a tinkers cuss about it but if someone wants to play silly buggers by repeatedly trying to force a 32 tonner to stop in that manner several times deserves all that's coming. Its a shame the driver did not front up as I would have enjoyed getting in his face
complete arse wipe.
