Hi folks,

Just wanted the views of ph parents that have gone down the private school route... What good experiences have you had?
My daughter has dyslexia fwiw, but also needs an academic school as she is bright.

Hopefully goes without saying but please remember to stay within forum rules smile

Thanks folks

Guildford High School for Girls has a good reputation.

Not sure where in Surrey you are, but I went to Salesian College in Farnborough, and many of my female friends went to Farnborough Hill.

I've never heard anything but good things about Farnborough Hill, and my friends have all turned out very well indeed.

Given that Surrey could mean Frimley/Camberley, I thought that was worth a mention.

I'm relocating to Guildford this Summer so looked at Guildford Girls High School, Tormead School and St Catherine's at Bramley for our daughter.

Guildford Girls High is described, even by those without any children, as 'aggresively academic' and were quite rude and short over the phone saying they already had full waiting list so 'wouldn't ever consider seeing my daughter'.

Tormead and St Catherine's were completely charming and couldn't have been more helpful, both going out of their way to offer advice as well as help.

There is also a Girls private school at Godalming but its name escapes me.

Assuming you don't mean Charterhouse which I believe is both sexes, you probably mean St Hilary's?

I didn't mean St Hilary's which is of no use to the OP as it is Prep School to age 11, I meant Priorsfield which is 11 -18 girls only.

Think we need some more information from the OP. Guildford HS for Girls and Box Hill (as previously mentioned) have quite different intakes/expectations and league table performance.

Do you want co-ed or single sex? Does the dyslexia affect school performance/does she need extra help in class. Some privates won't be particularly accomodating if so. Are you focused on achieving academic results / Russell Group university entrance / need a very sport-focused school? What travel arrangements are you looking for - where are you based? Parental lifts to/from school / walking / train / bus / school bus?
