Hi,

I'm about to buy a house in Woking and need to choose a solicitor. I want to choose someone base on recommendations rather than a google search, so if any of you have a reliable solicitor could you share their details please?

Cheers,

DC

Ramsdens.

They are based in Yorkshire but don't let that put you off, everything is done over the phone and via email, they are the 3rd set we have used over the years (3rd and final house move) and I wish could have found someone like them from the start before we made the mistake of using Countrywide and going through hell with their sausage factory of an outfit.

They are the conveyancers that Wokings largest estate agent, Seymours, recommend, and I have to say they have been faultless.

Thanks. Seymours had already sent me their details but their price is quite a bit higher than a lot of the other quotes I've received.

If their service is worth it I'll go with them, just want to be 100% sure first.

Cheers,

Offices in Woking too.

They were brilliant, from us deciding to sell to moving in it was 5 weeks, they also helped us sell off a parcel of land too.

We compared the quote for them to others and it was cheaper for their actual fees.. Its the stamp duty that kills it.

Interestingly its mackerel turner garret that are being slow beneath us and causing delays.

We also used Brogan in Frimley last year, they only do conveyancing which helps significantly. As above cannot recommend them highly enough having used a Camberley firm & one of the Internet warehouse operations before.

Whatever you do don't use this firm, they have hugely cocked up across the entire chain causing major problems and delays. We were supposed to be moving next Tuesday ands thanks to these guys that's now all off. All because they missed a crucial detail just prior ot exchange which is going to cause weeks to sort out.

On top of all that, they do not communicate with anyone - not the other solicitors, not me, and not even their clients - our buyers! As such we are all communicating between ourselves and hoping that this joke of a firm actually manage to omplete the work they shoul dhave done weeks ago.

Shame about that Dizeeee, we must have had a different member of their staff, our was on the ball the whole way. It was a young lady who did the bulk of the work then a higher up guy checked everything over and signed it all off.

Hope you get moved soon, good luck,

Matt

Mick Adkin, who is quite high up so we understand, is dealing with our buyers.

Things were fine from the start, but now it is a complete mess. You know you have issues when your local estate agent sales progression ( who have dealt with Mick successfully for a long time ) state they have not know him being so vacant or slow to respond.

Deadlines have been missed now, and removals men have had to be cancelled etc. After a week of this "issue" being presented, nobody can get an answer from the guy about times scales. It's an embarassment when you have to speak to your own buyers personally on a regular basis to get things done, with both of you none the wiser.

I did speak to him around a month ago and he seemed very pleasurable - now it is just brick wall and avoidance.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We think our chain has an end now, so I'm going to select a solicitor in the next day or two.

Quotes all seem to be either around £1000 or £1650 for everything except the Stamp Duty. Brogan seem to be the best value of the names suggested on this thread, not the cheapest I've found but nicely in the middle of the price range.

Hope you get it sorted and it all works our for you. Our solicitors Ramsden's have been very good, just a shame about the one dealing with our buyer's purchase! The issue is STILL not resolved although there is light at the end of the tunnel and we now have a new move date. Still though they don't communicate.
