Excellent timing from all concerned by the looks of it to add maximum annoyance for annoying heading London bound. The M3 still has at least 15 months left to run on that after the numerous push backs on completion date there, so that's a minimum of a year overlap with the M4.
Plus, aren't they starting the reconstruction of The Meadows r/bout quite early in 2017 too? I'm sure that will take just as long as the one in Basingstoke did, with the obligatory 6+ month delays
The Meadows roundabout will be the breaker for me i think. It will be horrendous and the knock-on affect will be hell.Plus, aren't they starting the reconstruction of The Meadows r/bout quite early in 2017 too? Wouldn't it be wonderful if the powers that be did a little "joined up thinking" ie: started this AFTER the M3 works were complete?
Any idea what they are doing at the Meadows?

Isn't it the proposed, and much delayed, general fking around with lanes, traffic lights and filters so that it makes no appreciable difference to anyone by the time they finish as we will have been so used to traffic from road works that we will accept anything once they fk off and re-do the A30 in Bagshot again, or decide to re-surface part of the M3 as it will have been a few months since they closed that off. 15 weeks starting imminently I believe.

Yeah I noticed earlier this week that the obligatory yellow plaques, attached to streetlights, have appeared on the dual carriageway approaching The Meadows saying that 15 weeks of "preparation" work and lane closures are evidently meant to start along there next week Wouldn't it be wonderful if the powers that be did a little "joined up thinking" ie: started this AFTER the M3 works were complete?

I believe the original plan was to wait for the M3 completion as The Meadows work was originally scheduled to start early this year but got pushed back for additional consultation and because the M3 works were, at that time, rescheduled to be finished by the end of 2016 - but of course, as we know now, that's been pushed by another year to the end of 2017
I think The Meadows r/bout reconstruction is to follow a similar sort of design as the one they built in Basingstoke by becoming a "Hamburger" design.
Edit - I believe they are also blocking off the exit part of the junction / road that links to Tesco / Next as that was marked out as being a pinch point with heavy queuing and people usually pulling out and blocking, etc.

(I realise that won't happen)
My commute is J13 Newbury to Central London - fking yay.
I just think it's apalling - FIVE YEARS is a very long time. Absolute joke. And yes, the A4 will be very busy when they shut the motorway. You can always tell when they shut J13->J12 as the A4 in Thatcham is full of fking lorries.
Combined with the M3 roadworks and the Sluff roadworks at Jct6 it's really piss poor planning.
On the other hand, nearly every day when I am going in, it is awful in terms of traffic - Random queues etc.
Unfortunately it will be the end of my 100 mph cruise as no doubt they plaster the thing with Cameras. Here's hoping the avg speed ones are front facing.
